Q:

Getting it right

I hope to get out today for some range finding/pellet count. If goes well and it does not rain I will be putting out targets at 30yards and taking as many shots as I can from I fill but only 5 shots per tagert aera so I can see how the fill pressure affects the POI at set distance.

With this done and now knowing the ‘sweet spot’ I will fill my bottle to about 2500psi and take a shot, again at 30 yards, see where the pellet lands. if its in the sweet spot aera I will fill the bottle a bit more and shoot again to see where it lands. I am going to keep doing this until the pellet leaves the sweet spot aera.

Yer its sucking eggs for you guys but its all new to me.

So I now I know my fill pressure for the sweet spot – target practice time. That is if I am not exhausted from pumping up my bottle.

I am going to put out targets at 15 – 25 – 35 – 45 – 55 – 65 – 75 yards
I will be zeroed in at 35 yards and all shots will be take with the Xhair on centre of target. 5 shots at each distance.

If it turns out that 35 yards is not suitable for ‘Zero’ distance I will adjust the ‘zero’ to a more useful distance. With anyluck it will be on a multidot either up or down.

Once this session is over I will know;
The sweet spot for my setup.
Range finding with the multidots at all distances tested.
Which multidot to aim for at said distances.
How accurate my kit is.

I will post results from this session and maybe it will assist with others and their setups.

I know there is software out there that works this all out but there is nothing better then doing it and having confidence knowing that it is reall and not computer generated.

I will shoot B Magnums from a prone possistion using a bipod.

I do not have a clue what the TH is set at as it is a BN valve and I can’t work out how I would measure it.

I think my sweet spot is lower as the hammer is lighter at 65g.

What was your TH set at

Good deal…I am still struggleing over here….Found that the pellets were clipping the shroud….AARRRGGHHHHHH….Got that straighten out and now to figure out the sweet spot…..So far it looks like 2900psi….

Yes I do but I forgot to bring it with me…

It took 2 hours but have found that the sweet spot for my setup is bang on 2500. How about that for guess work…

I had to adjust the TH a fair bet until I found what the hammer and spring like banging the TH at to give consistant shots with the B Magnum.

I can post 1 target showing pellets all over the place at all distances which was how I arrived today but you will have to wait a day for the tuned and far more accurate shots.

I should of been more specific. Brutus do you have a chrony?

Yes I do….

Do you have a chrony?

I didn’t know that…Well there is always Tophat adjustment too but that may not be something you want to adjust….Best I understand, the optimum Tophat setting is around .085 clearance between the bottom of the tophat and the face of the valve …. I tell ya it starts to make you crazy trying to figure it all out but it is a blast….Seems to be a never ending search for nirvana…

I have a uk gunpower stealth. I do not have a pw so things will be easier as I have to work with what is running.

Where are you going to start the Power Wheel setting? The sweet spot could actually be at 2,700 with PW on 6 or 2,800 with PW on 5, or any number of other combinations….Just means you get to shoot more which is a good thing…..

Seen the same and thought I would work up not down. I could be a long way off at 2500 and I hope I am but I see it as the easyiest way to get the pressure as accurate as possible with out a pressure merer.

I will be starting at 3000 so shot count should go someway towards the guess work.

Thanks for the advice and if there are any other ideas out there please post them any help is good help.

That’s a great idea…It will generate a ton of info and will teach you quite a few things about shooting that you did not realise….It is a never ending process.,…Have fun

I see lots of posts with good accuracy at 2800. You might want to start a little higher. just my 2cents.
