Question about ordering a neww 177 barrel

Hi,

Received my new condor 22 a few weeks ago and I really like it. I was thinking about getting a 177 cal barrel. I was reading the information on it at Pyramyd air and it said that the velocity would decrease. Why would it decrease? I thought if anything it would increase. Can someone please explain why it would decrease in fps,if it would so. Thanks. Jim

No Sam if you look at almost all my reading you see that the P.W. is on 1 already . And there was not much diference betwen the talon and condor tank readings other that I could use a lower fill rate in most cases with the condor tank which I like . With the stronger spring in the talon valve and the valve being smaller in diameter it might give a vary high shot count with a reduced fps . for close paper . Note I said might . Marvin

Why would you do that? Couldn’t you achieve the same result just by lowering the P.W. ?

Top hat on my Condor tank was set at the factory at .067 and I have not had to adjust it so far . My talon tank is set at .100 and that is as low as that one will go . I just bought two more talon tanks from Kevin so I will be playing again soon with the chrony . He gave me such a good deal that if I am not happy with them I will change the valves out . I still would like to know if any one has put a .177 high flow valve spring in a talon tank for high shot count close range work .Marvin

Hey Marvin where did you end up setting your top hat at? I sure like those numbers your getting.

I could be wrong but I would think the B.C . would be better in the .177 because of less wind resistance . But like I said I could be wrong . I have ordered a Corbin swagger to make my own .177 pellets but it takes 6 – 12 months to get it built and its only been about 2 since I ordered it . At that time I plan on makeing .177 pellets in weights that are the same as .22 and see what happens . Here are some results I have with Eun Jin .177 pellets that were 15.8 -15.9 in weight . Fill psi was 2000 , P.W. on 10 . Total shots 25 .
1019 , 1025 , 1021 , 1016 , 1009 , 1006 , 1000 , 991 , 987 , 980 , 975 , 971 , 969 , 959 , 951 , 948 , 945 , 936 , 932 , 929 , 923 , 920 , 915 , 910 , 907 , average of 25 shots 966 .

If you use the same weight pellet, in both cal. the smaller one is going to have more friction, then the larger one.

I have a .177 Condor that averages about 990 on CPH 10.5 at a 2000 psi fill with the P.W. set on 1 . Thats with a 50 shot string . I will list some numbers tomorrow that I shot today with Beeman silver arrows . But Its going to be close to these numbers . Remember you are going to have to change your valve spring or get a different Tank if you go to the .177 barrel . Marvin

I understand what u are saying about the 20 caliber but why would Pyramyd air claim that the 177 caliber is slower? I always thought the lighter the pellet the faster it goes. Does anyone else have any ideas? Thanks.

I’ve heard the same…the .20 cal projectile is longer therefore more friction slower fps. The .177 should will not have this problem.
