Bushing shims.
Just wondering who adds shims to there barrel bushings and does It make that mush of a difference with accuracy? I’m sure I read on here that someone did It so thought I’d give It ago. I added a layer of selotape to both and It feels a much tighter fit now. Just need to rework my valve head again and I’ll get some testing done. Anyone tried It and found It makes much of a difference?

Did you learn this the hard way? I think the screw is plastic as well. If you’ve fuggered up the hole in that ring, drill and tap a new 4-40 hole in the ring a ways from the old one. The “Power Wheel” indicator will be off a bit, but I never go by the fine numbers anyway. Just that the screw is “about 7-ish” or wherever I put it.

Like I said before, if the tape works for you, then great, who am I to tell you not to use it?
I was just stating how I’d approach the issue personally. I know everyone’s got a budget these days (lord knows I do), but when you’ve got a $500 gun with $300 worth of accessories and mods on it, it just doesn’t make sense to me to skimp on such an important (and comparitively cheap) part as the bushings. What’s a new set from AF cost, $25 or so?

Again, that’s just my state of mind on the subject… but if the tape is workin’ for ya, and you’re happy with it, then good deal.
In the end we both end up with an equally good working gun.

Did you guys know that the ring that the PW indicator screw screws into is NOT metal?

Maybe it’s just my Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder showing (:wink:), but I couldn’t live with having to shim my bushings. I’d shit-can the old ones in a second and buy a new set. And if those didn’t work, I’d shit-can those, and I’d keep buying sets until I found a pair that work the way they’re supposed to.

Be careful with tape. I tried a little a while back, and the glue made it get stuck in the tube. Thought I would never get it back out!
Might be worth putting some Silicon grease on the tape before I put it in?

Without that I would have to compensate to much with my scope for misalignment 🙁

I’ll post the results when i get the rifle up and running again. Just need to drill the valve head 😈 That’s what I shimmed mine with selotape (clear packing tape). I used electrical tape first but It was too thick. I only needed one strip all the way around and now there a real snug fit. Hopeing I’ll get some noticable improvments In accuracy.
Clear packing tape does a good job and is pretty thin…..
I have way undersized bushings that I paint with fingernail polish from the dollar store, it lasts for a good wile ‘tll I notice I’m slightly clipping again, I tare it down, clean it all up, repaint, reassemble and do it all over again. and yes I think it helps alot with accuracy.

Almost Rhoderman…Once I took the gun apart a few times I knew that I would eventually need a replacement so while I was ordering parts I had them include the screw and the ring….So I have a spare for when I do screw it up…I didn’t realize that the ring was plastic until I got the part…
