Q:

Airforce CO2 adaptor

Well, Hello there.
I have a CO2 adaptor problem. The tophat stem keeps pulling out of the adaptor body. This seems to be because of excessive breech slide O ring tension, but I don’t know.
Can you pull that tophat stem out of a CO2 adaptor with your fingers, ..like I can?

Glad to hear it. What kind of springs did you use? Pics would be great. Thanks!

i got it working again. i just added 2 springs inside to make the valve seat fit tight. no more valve dumps. this CO2 adapter with 2000 psi reg works very well with various shot counts.

im having the same problems too.

I replaced the stock valve with a heavier spring and new condor valve. I put it back together and can’t get it working properly.

I think the CO2 adaptors come with the Condor valves installed already.

Other than that, given their penchant to be finicky from the get-go, I don’t think they’re a good candidate for mods or one-off rebuilds. Best to just send them back to the factory for repair/replacement.

Cool image, by the way.

Buzzcat,
No, there were no aftermarket concerns. Straight out of the box. I actually had accidental discharges as I tried to pull the breech slide home.
Not a full charge, but enough to bust a flourescent lamp. Guess how I know that? What a mess.

BlueJay, Thanks.
Wow. I’m glad it isn’t just me. There’s a way around this, I’m sure.

it’s a known problem with them, take a look at this thread, and call A/F for a replacement

When I got my condor I bought the co2 adapter from PyramydAir. Only place they were available. Would have bought the condor there also but after an hour on hold got po’d and called AirHOg. Also Pyramydair would’nt boundle the co2 adapter with the hpa package. Anyway I’m lucky the tophat has never seperated from the adapter. Used co2 for about a year, until I got the hpa fill clamp and 2 80 cf scuba tanks. Had problems with the Airforce hpa fill clamp. Bad pressure gauge”Beware”…………..! Never had any Problems with co2.

Are the slide and O-rings OEM or aftermarket? My slide fits over the top hat, but doesn’t “grip” it in any way, as far as I can tell. There’s no friction (or “grab”) where the slide and tophat meet.

I’m surprised that the CO2 pressure in the adaptor doesn’t blow the stem across the room.

Yes to both.
The tophat stem pulls out on cocking the breechslide. I’ve sent one back to Airforce, and the replacement does the same thing. I’ll call them today to ask about it again. They’re good about customer service.

AJC, are you saying that the breech pulls the stem out of the adapter when you cock it? If so, that ain’t right at all!

I believe you normally could pull the stem out with your fingers with a little elbow grease, though I wouldn’t recommend it.

That doesn’t sound right AJC..Won’t have my adapter till Thursday..Hopefully someone will chime in that has some experience.
