Q:

Interesting Hand Pump Mod from the Yellow

Not sure if the guy posts here, I don’t recognize the name.

From the way he describes it, it looks like a mod that uses a standard compressor to assist the hand pump, allowing for a complete fill with minimal pump strokes. Sounds viable to me, but I’m an idiot when it comes to HPA.

What do ya think? And where is the “sintered inlet filter” located that he’s talking about?

My friends and I have boosted intial stages for manual and hydraulic pumps for some years now.It works well but has drawbacks on wear and tear to the seals. An upgrade to those is a must,to prevent backblow. The whole pump is charged to the pressure coming from the compressor,so fit an output limiter /non return valve to the feed line preferably before the dryer. If you get a double acting hydraulic ram 3000/4500 psi is achievable with a ten ton ram and a hobby compressor, again relief valves are a must.Seperate up your HP TANK and COMPRESSOR/HYDRAULIC RIG with A GOOD BLAST BOX FOR SAFETY,never had anything go bad on us but think safety, safety, safety.I have found that some old refridgeration pumps in series on a manifold will do 1500psi ,they are the ones that used co2 as coolant. Most of all I reccomend using BSPP fitting over NSP many threads grip the connection rather than just one or two.My ha’pennies worth.

Wow, now I gotta buy a Hill pump.
I was originally going to nix the hand-pump idea but this is a good option to have.

Brilliant! Simply brilliant! I can’t wait to get home to try it. AKULA

well it works i just ran down to the basement to try it, i just used 30 psi and took my gun from 2000 psi to 2650 with 18 strokes, the thing is the pumping is hard, it is like the last few inches of a normal stroke but you start it from the beggining of the stroke with the air compressor hooked up. i think i am fighting the first stage with air but i will try lower pressure next time (guess i have to do some shooting). i am betting normal pressure in the second stage at the begging of the down stroke is only a few psi, i quess i have to do some exparmentation, seems worth it.

Let me see if I understand this correctly. He’s hooking his normal garage compressor air line to a filter/dryer, then to the inlet of the hand pump so that when he begins the compression stroke he’s starting with somewhere around 100-150 psi. ? If I have that right it seems like it could work. Although I like the idea of electrifying a hand pump better.
