Q:

Please help ! Airforce pump filling Talon SS

Hi, I’m in desperate need of assistance.
I have an Airforce 3 stage pump with hose and adapter for my Career 707 that I bought with a rifle. I’ve used this pump to fill up Career and it worked great.
Later on I bought Talon SS. I intended to use it for CO2 and that’s what I did for some time. Then I decided to fill HPA bottle. I have Airforce pump already, so… I ordered AirForce 1/4″ male BSPP Adapter. Adapter arrived. Turned out that thread size is too big for the pump. That surprised me a bit. Ok, I figured I needed that 1/8 BSPP that they have there. Ordered that 1/4 to 1/8 BSPP adapter. It turned out that 1/8 BSPP is too small for my pump. Now I’m completely lost. I went to Homedepot and looked at the fittings. The only thing that I found to match my pump thread size is Watts A-732 Pipe coupling (see pic). I can put together an adapter that will fit my pump on one end and airforce fill cup on the other end, but this thing looks way too insecure for HPA use. To be honest I’m just scared to fill a bottle to 3000psi using complicated 2 piece brass adapter with thin walls.

Please help ! I don’t want to buy another pump or tank and need a cheap solution to this thread mismatch problem. Thank you in advance.

Not sure how to insert pictures, so here are the links:

Ok. I have emailed Airforce airguns. Sent them pictures. They were like “oh yeah I know what is going on… your need a base adaptor that threads into the black hand pump base”. Ok, they have sent that adapter. The thing is that it doesn’t fit. The adapter that they have sent last is 1/4 bspp male to 1/8 female. The hole on the base is smaller than 1/4 bspp and bigger than 1/8 bspp. Still no luck.

when you go to photo bucket on the drop down list under your pic copy the bottom one that says img code and paste it in the post

Thanks. That worked.

Will email airforce airguns. Hopefully they can get me what I need.

i would send air force that picture you have and see what they say it looks to me like you pump has been taken apart though i think the part you need is supposed to be part of the pump
i have a hill so i may be wrong on it but i would def send them that pic

Thanks. I told that girl that I needed the brass fitting that screws in the base of the airforce pump. I think that she sent the right thing. Though on your picture I see that there is another smaller brass fitting right under the big one. I really don’t think that somebody made another thread in the base. Here is what I have so far:

So what should I order? How exactly to tell airforce what I need?
It looks like I’m starting collecting different fittings 🙂

Thanks for all your help

Well that sucks, dude. Did you ask them for the OEM basic fitting?

Here’s a pic of my AF pump with the brass fitting in question, and with the AF OEM bottle adapter screwed on. That brass piece was OEM as well… that’s what came from the factory.

Not sure what the issue is with your pump, unless someone had to drill out the hole in your pump housing for the Career hose…

Another thought… I don’t think the brass piece in question is called an “adapter”. The “adapter” is the black thing that’s screwed into it.

If you asked AF for an “adapter” when you ordered, then you might have to backtrack and tell them what you really need.

Good luck!

Today package came from airforce with that brass adapter that I was hopping was all I needed. Turned out that’s it doesn’t fit either. That brass fitting has the same 1/8 bspp thread size and functions the same way as the 1/4 to 1/8 bspp adapter that airforce sells. I’m still so lost.
Already thinking about giving up on idea to fill this Talon HPA bottle with the airforce pump. So far I have 3 adapters and no solution.

It looks like you’re missing the correct brass fitting that screws into the pump housing. Then the adapter (male side) screws into the brass fitting. That’s all there is to it.

Perhaps the OEM brass fitting went MIA when the Career hose was installed? If so, a call to AF and a few bux oughta get you right.

You’re most likely right. It totally makes sense. I didn’t think about it because I saw a picture of the pump somewhere and bottle adapter was screwed right into the base of the pump. Now I checked more pictures and I see that brass fitting. So I guess it did come with the pump at some point but was lost. A called Airforce and they told me they have the fitting. Don’t know it is the right one, but ordered it. Hopefully it is what I need. Will wait for the mail man. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for a quick reply. But is there another way? It looks like I have almost everything I need for now, except that freaking thread adapter. I shoot most of the time with CO2 and and investing in a new hose with foster bottle adapter just doesn’t appeal to me at this moment.

What does the other end of the hose look like?
It looks like you have a brass fitting on the end of the hose. That brass fitting screws into the pump…Unscrew the hose from the brass fitting and see if the 1/4″ fill adapter will screw into the brass fitting….

Well the other end of the hose has fill probe for carrer 707. I tried that end as well. Fill probe has the same thread size as the pump. I think it is 1/8 BSPP. What I don’t really understand is why the pump is anything other that 1/4 or 1/8 bspp, and where to get the adapter.

I thought that as well, but the brass fitting on my pump is 7/8″… the one he’s got looks smaller. But, if it works, it works.

With a pump that you are using on more then one PCP you need a female foster on the pump and a male on the guns fill adapter. Call Mac1 airguns tell him what you have and he will set you up. This is what the fill adapter with a male foster looks like.
