Sneaky Tree Rat
We have had a tree rat here at the house causing all kinds of problems. He was one smart little bastard. If he saw you come out of your house, even at 100-150 yards away, He was GONE!!! We nick named him Speedy!
I’ve been trying to get a shot on him for well over a year. (closer to two)
Well his insulation robbing days are over. I saw him sneaking up from the pasture this morning at about 200 yards. When he went behind a building, I quickly went in side to get the SS.
I waited for him sniper style. 😈 And out he popped. He snick behind a cedar fence and as usual, he disappeared. He never came out! 👿
Well, he met his match this time. I had the new 4.5×14 Zeiss with mil-Dot Ret, and target knobs on the SS and sighted in. Even though I couldn’t see him with the naked eye, He stood out like a pimple on a run way models ass. He was now at 82 yards. and laying on the fence under some heavy limbs. Well hidden (he thought.) Just laying there looking straight at me. I had the SS braced over the top of the car. So was some what hidden. since the wind was coming across at 18-23 (according to the weather service) from a left to right angle , and the scope was set at 55 yards, I set the sight at 2 mills high.( 2 under the cross hear). and 1.5 mils right of the cross hair and let one fly! ( since he was facing me while lying down, he only gave me about a 1 1/2″x1 1/2″ target)
Well he did a back flip, and ran about 10 feet down the fence line, and day under it. So I let one more fly with the same adjustments. I saw the telling fast spastic tail twitch that told me that he was down for the count.
First round went through the left front leg, and the left rear leg. The second round entered just under the shoulder in the front of the chest, and exited out by his nut sack. He was DRT!!!
For you non Texan, DRT is short for Dead Right There!!! 😀

Talon SS with 18″ .22 Bbl. Hand lapped with Condor valve shooting .22 tuned down to shoot Kodiak’s at 990’s.

I tried to hit a crow the other day but it was at least 90 yards out and only hit the branch he was standing on. I should have aimed a lot higher. I don’t think he’s coming back to roost anymore …at least on that tree.

Knifemaker, story is as good, finally got the bastard, I finally had a chance at a crow last evening and didn’t take the wind into consideration, was going for a head shot, saw the pellet just miss him. Scared the piss out of him, and waiting for the black bastards to show up tonight.
