Q:

I got some resettable field targets today!

Wow these resettable field targets from Dick Otten are a work of art. The mechanism looks very durable. I’m going to have to buy just one more to display over the fireplace mantle.

I bought the Super Popper last year and just got a Crow this year.

Beautiful work, I was wanting to not shoot it because it is so nice, but I did anyways… 😉

Great guy and great work!

Thanks for the review man. Sounds like a good buy and you’ll be hearing a review from me too as soon as they come in the mail. I’m probaly going to get the same ones as you did.

Oh ya I forgot to mention that the Raccoon has a 1.5″ diameter kill zone and you can install the supplied steel reducers to decrease the size of the kill zone. You can also order the crow with a larger (1.5″) kill zone as well.

Basically, you shoot into the small opening (the kill zone) in the crow or the raccoon at which point the pellet hits the metal lever and causes the entire target to fall down… kind of like a mouse trap but falls with help of gravity not solely on a highly wound spring. It’s a nice indication (visually and audibly) that you’ve actually hit the target as the entire silhouette falls down.

To erect/reset the target, you just pull on the cable that’s connected to the middle of the target (it comes with 50 to 60 yards of string on a spool) and you are ready for the next shot. If you hit anywhere on the outside of the “kill zone” the beefy metal target will not fall.

Well I shot my springer at the crow. Completely flew over the target at 15 yards. The 1/2″ target looks just about impossible to hit with my RWS45 and 4x fixed Bushy. So, I gave up and fired up the TSS. The kick on the RWS is pretty bad.

At any rate, on my first shot I hit the target using Gamo Hunters. from the same distance and down went the target. I pulled the reset string and she stood right up for the next shot. I’m using an AF 4×16 scope and shooting off-hand.

I missed the next 4 shots LOL. But I can see the pellets landed where I was pointing (shooting off-hand). On power setting of 10 and using HPA regulated at 2000 psi. No chrony numbers but I suspect it was around 780 FPS. The target did NOT budge at all. It’s made out of some very thick metal and he used “c-clips” to secure all the pivot points. These targets are easily going to withstand any 22 caliber pellets you can shoot at them and in my opinion you’re not going to have to worry about parts breaking with repetitive use.

It’s a satisfying feeling when the target makes a sound and goes down when successfully hitting the bullseye.

Wow those are freaking awesome. How exactly do they work? They look like a good buy and can’t wait to here a review from you.
