spray painting hardwood.
Guys im a bit of a pickel im just about to spraypiant some hard wood an it just acured to me, I may need to prep it sumhow?.
I have sanded it and got rid of all remaining “bits” but do i need to primer it or anything?
Anyone with a quick reference or anything would be apreciated asap

To paint hard wood,
sanding sealer
sand
If you sand through
sanding sealer
Paste wood filler
sanding sealer
color coat in laquer
let dry 7 days
color coat
sand lightly
top coat in clear nitro laquer 3 time double wet coats
dry 7 days
sand with 600 paper or better

A paint for wood would be better, but an enamel type paint can be multi-purpose. If it is a metal paint… at least your wood won’t rust… 😆
Check manufacturer’s website perhaps?
With a light colored paint, a good primer will also give a more even color on wood that has darker grains with lighter ones, knots, etc. But so will several light coats of paint.

Rev I must say although of topic, your stories in the rem700 post were awsome lol. Back to the mater at hand, although the paint only informs me about car usage its defo ok on wood, i checked. It just does’nt inform ya about the outher uses.
and regarding what im painting, check back tomorow and you’l find out

IF it says for CARS.. it is probably a metal paint.

Drying time depends on Temperature. I would think maybe 12 to 24 hours

I have already done as you sugeted to, im expeirnced with woods just now spray paints. The only direction the can gives is for cars lol, no help.

Needs to be cleaned dust free dry and the wood sealed. Use gloves because skin oil will cause problems. Nicks and dings need filler applied into them.
Sand and second sealer coat, maybe a third sealer and final sanding.
Apply finish coat of paint in several thin coats of paint sanding with very fine sand paper between each coat.
Clean throughly and dry after every sanding. The more coats of paint gives a shiny glass like apearence 😀

what happens if i put a coat of paint on already? 🙄
you may also before that want to use a sanding sealer so the wood does not soak up all of the primer
To make it look nice with even penetration you should spray it with a PRIMER. This will allow the paint to look even throughout the wood and make it much more durable.
