Q:

.25 Cal. barrel in 18" or 24"

I’ve decided to get a .25 cal. barrel for my stock Talon SS. Whether I buy one 18″ long or 24″ long from Tony, I will have the vented front bushing. I plan on adding a shroud at a later time.

The 24″ barrel by itself would be fine, but once I add the shroud it looks like it will be pretty darn long. If I add an 18″ barrel, the shroud would only lengthen the rifle by about 6″.

Anyone have experience with a .25 cal. 18″ barrel on a stock Talon SS? I was wondering what fps I could expect with Beeman Kodiak 31 grain pellets? The 24″ version, according to sawtime, easily tops 800+ fps.

Which length would you buy, 18″ or 24″? Total cost for barrel and shroud would be around $500 so I’d like to make the best choice.

Thanks,
Gunby

I had a Talon Tuned TSS with the 24″ barrel and shroud and yes it was long. I am now purchasing a Condor and it will at some point soon, have a shroud.
For me it is worth having a long barrel I shoot in open spaces. If you are going to be hunting in heavy woods, you should get the shorter barrel.

Hey sawtime,

I read where you stop at a place called Mac1 for airgun stuff. As I work within 25 miles, I drove by and bought some stuff on Saturday. One item was a good deal on a new Airforce CO2 adapter for $50.

Pretty neat place. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks guys. Just the feedback I needed to help me make a decision.

Special thanks to sawtime for taking the time to chrono the Kodiaks. Also, thanks for reminding me your first number were for Crow Magnums. I knew that but forgot.

I’ll let you know what I finally order and how it performs.

I wish I went with Tony but I tried to save some money and now I wish I could rewind. If I could do it over, I’d get a 21 inch .25 barrel from him. It’s a good balance between power and a good practical length once shrouded. If it’s still too long for you once you talk to tony about it, get the 18 inch.

stock valve and hammer ^^^^^^

Alright just did a 20 shot string

Talon
24″ barrel
.25 kodiaks
chrony at 5 yards
PW max

2800 psi fill
ending with 2200 psi

took 3 shots prior, had to get the chrony up and running, had the wrong lights on 🙄

1 shot 788.7
20 th 750.88
avg. 770.67

SAW

Kodiaks will be in the mid 700’s with 18″ pipe
mid 800’s with the 24″

gunby-
the #’s posted 800+ were with crow mags .25/26.2 grain
kodiaks are somewhat heavier and I will do some testing this weekend with the kodiaks, I don’t have to work 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

SAW

I have a 19 inch barrel in my stock SS and it does 41fpe(240m/s) with barracudas and 32 fpe(260m/s) with FTT.
