Q:

Cheap BSA Tune?

I really need my BSA Lightnin XL tuned and I was wondering wether anyone here knows a fast, inexpensive tuner. My BSA came VERY twangy, with a beat up scope rail (Partly my fault) and a serious dieseling problem. The accuracy was nonexistent and it is unpleasant to shoot. I normally would do it myself, but I cannot take the thing apart despite my best efforts. The spring is under a ton of pre-load and taking it apart requires a special spring compressor. All it really needs is to be cleaned up, have a breach seal replaced, and probably a piston seal…… Basically just a lube tune!

Rich will tune it and he’s pretty reasonable. I havn’t had mine tuned yet, but there are several good reports of him tuning xl’s so when I get around to it, I’m sending mine to Rich.

So, I just spoke to Sportsman’s Warehouse about the issues with the gun and they basically told me to go screw myself…..Seriously! I hate bad customer service!

Gene curtis on the GTA forum is quite the BSA springer dude…he lives in south carolina, i think his co. name is gene’s tunz and toyz or something like that….

Hey Critter,
I had both of my XLs fully tuned by David Slade (Airgunwerks). I also had him replace the springs with Gas Struts. He did a great job on both air rifles.
When I asked how far back he was Dave claimed approx. 6 weeks. Not true, I had both rifles back in under 3! Though, if you want the Struts you might have to wait a while for Dave to get them in stock. Apparently, Theoben takes their own sweet time in shipping them.

All in all they’re both very smooth shooting air rifles now.
