Q:

.177 or .22 caliber for 17 joules??

hello Guys!

Couse it’s my first post in here, I would like to say hello to everyone! πŸ™‚

As regards subject I have a question to those of U who has Talon (in Poland Shadow), but in version driveing on only 17joules…
I’m from Poland and we have here some legal limitation as regards power of air rifles, without any registrations U can have only 17J.
to avoid problems and bureaucracy I want to buy just legal version, like this: http://www.gunpower.org.uk/ (it’s a producer web, so hope it’s not forbiden to link it)

and finally the question πŸ™‚

which version .177 or .22 powered by 17J would U recommend to me?
the idea od Shadow is the recreation, but on let’s say 50 up to 100m distance

any suggestions?

thank U in advance!
and sorry if I’ve done something wrong! πŸ™‚

maybe i am a bit late off the mark but at that lower level .177 all the way.

you will be close to 1000fps with light pellets and 850’s with slightly heavier pellets.

the drop on a .22 over 40 yards is huge and really takes time to get use to. a .177 is almost a flat trajectory.

using software like chair gunner you will easilly see that a .177 at 12fpe has a similer flight path to a .22 with 26fpe or so…

if you will fac you rifle at a later date then go .22

thx Guys!

I decided to go with .177 and will see πŸ™‚
first of all need to find the dealer near to me (to Poland), couse polish one closed its activity…

thanks one more time!
let U know if I find mine.

I have a .177 Talon SS US version that hits at 20-21 fpe with eun jin korean heavies. what I like about .177 is that it is quieter (with shroud custom endcap)n due to narrow bore, and you have a lot of different pellets options. My gun seems to like barracudas. I have yet to try JSB predators in this caliber and think they would be optimal for lower powered euro reg’ed PCP’s for hunting.

you could always get 2 barrels anyways, but i’d go with the .177 because of flatter trajectory, more shots, cheaper ammo…

thank U!

so I decided to buy talon .177, 17J πŸ˜€
now need to find out where, couse the only shop is out of stock πŸ™

Based on what I’ve heard about the UK spec gunpower’s (12 fpe / 16.2 J) you should get a couple hundred shots.

And if I’m limited by a power limit – then I’d go with the .177 because it will be shooting faster than a .22 pellet at the same power level.

OK, but what about number fo stable shoots (+/- 5 metres per second), which I can have with oryginal 200 bar compressed air?? of course only 17J πŸ™‚

thx in advance.

quote Zilog:

At 100m a .22 pellet will drop approximately around 1.5 to 2.5m. A good .177 pellet with the same power you should be able to get a little under 1m drop. So I would think the .177 is probably going to be a good one for your to go for.

Thx Zilog!
it helped me!

I’m really close of takeing the decision of buying Shadow/Talon.
but I still don’t know which caliber…

indeed I’m not going to use it for hunting, just sth lik Field Target up to 100m πŸ™‚

there is no way it will be a effective killing gun at the 100m you are looking at.

He did not mention hunting or pest control…

I have had a sub 17j gun before and would generally recommend trying to get within 30m of what you are trying to kill. Sorry to say there is no way it will be a effective killing gun at the 100m you are looking at.

Were not the SΕ‚uΕΌba BezpieczeΕ„stwa – you can post links etc freely, and we wont even judge if you buy a >17j rifle !

thx Man!!
U know, I prefere to be cautious,
especially whan I’m a fresh blood somewhere πŸ™‚

If for hunting game I would say .22.

even if it’s only 17J??
what about descending of pellet due to the distance of obout 50-100m?
would that be possible to reach a strike without shooting like of mortar ? πŸ™‚

thanks for the answer!
