Marauder vs s410erb
Hey guys, good to be back…
OK so the last few weeks my heart has been set on a new gun, the 410 erb xtra. From what I’ve seen and read, it looks like a fantastic rifle, and I’m about ready to drive right to POG and pick one up from Steve.
Then I stumble across this Benjamin Marauder just yesterday, and start digging into that, forums, reviews ect. This Marauder seems to have every feature the 410 has, at about half the price of the 410. I kinda doubt the Marauder has the overall quality of the 410, but this has kind of thrown a monkey wrench in my decision. With the Marauder going for $499.00, is the 410 still worth almost 500 bucks more? i realise this question may be pre-mature to ask, as few people have even laid their hands on the Marauder yet… but should I wait, to see what transpires? Assuming the Marauder is a great shooter, $499.00 seems a damn good price, and I could save a bundle. Thx for any input on this.

WOK was the one who told me about this –
Use a piece of making/painters tape – wrap it around the stock where you want the stud. Mark each end of the tape at the top of the stock. Remove it, fold it over so the the two marks are touching and then reapply the tap with the marks in the right place. The fold will be your mark to drill the hole in the center.
I’m still too chicken to drill the rear of the stock for a stud, but I did it mainly same reason – for a bi pod so it wouldn’t have to be laid down.
Marauder is as MK 1 as you can get.

Just make sure to take you action out of the stock before you drill 😉
kgphotos… Very good, I understand what you mean completely. I actually thought of the same thing myself, and it would be a more secure set up than a swivel stud with a wood screw end. But I think you mean a “Counter bore” as opposed to a countersink for that nut. 🙂 Now to find the stud.
And you gotta posts some pics of the gun with custom stock, would really like to see that.

I am in the middle of building a custom stock for mine(actually my Grandfather is doing most of the building while I watch) but we put studs in for a bipod and sling. The front swivel stud that we used is a bolt not a screw. My grandfather drilled all the way through the forend and then on the inside of the forend (under the airtank) he made a bigger “counter-sunk” hole for a nut. The counter sunk hole is big enough for the nut and allows the nut to be lower than the airtank. My grandfather is 85 and has been building rifle stocks since the 1950’s. The wood blank we used he actually cut himself in 1957 or 1958, he wasn’t exactly sure. It is Madrone which is similar to Manzanita. I will post some photos when it is all done.
I am loving this WOK, zeroed her in today, did some great groups, albeit at only 20 yrds. Im so used to the egonomics, (or lack of ergonomics) of the SS, so it’s all a bit different, but this is the shit, I can tell! I’ll get used to this real quick. And so quiet.
Question… how did you attach your bi pod to the stock? I’m mainly a bench shooter, and hate having to put this purdy gun down on it’s side all the time. Is there a swivel stud with a wood screw end that just screws in after drilling a hole or what?
When I got mine from Steve it was marked .22 and when I got home found out it had a .177 barrel on it 😯
Got to drive a hr back the next week to have it swapped out 🙄

Mine is a tack driving machine. You are going to love it.
The .271″ group is my best so far but my ERB is very consistant with the .400″ and .300″ groups. It just seems to make it easy to shoot little groups. I am going to keep experimenting with the predators because i really wanted to use them for hunting. Although the JSB seem to smack critters pretty good too. Good luck with your rifle.

kgphotos… Congrats on your ERB. Man I can only hope to achieve groups like that. but from the sounds of it, this gun will allow me to do it, if I can. Someone else here also posted having problems with Preds with they’re 410 as well. May be these barrels just don’t like the taste of them, it happens. But I’ll feel alot more than ‘better’ if I can do anything close to a .271 @ 40!
I was in the same situation as you and I made the same choice. I got my S410 ERB about a month ago. I love it. I was shooting off a bench yesterday and at 40 yards I got several five shot groups that went into the .3″‘s and .4″ and one even went .271″ That is with 15.8gr JSB Exacts. With a 2900psi fill my first 20 shots averaged 966fps My rifle does not like the Predator Polymags though which disappoints me a little. But I just look at that .271″ group with the JSB and I feel all better 😀

Excellent choice. You simply cannot go wrong with the S4xx…. I have the CRB, MPR FT, and ERB… all fine guns and if I had to pic the BEST all purpose PCP…. it would be an S4xx.
Not to say the Marauder wont be a good gun…. but I feel very confident in saying it will never be an S4xx.

LOL, Steve told me a story about a guy who drilled right into his air cylinder when doing that, and AA also warns about that on their web site when drilling holes for a swivel stud.
When Steve first showed me the ERB extra, I noticed right away it had a walnut stock on it, not the beech one I asked for. I was surprised to see him change stocks in about 1 min, by just removing one allen screw on the bottom. Don’t know why but I assumed it would be a little more involved to do that.
