Running a new scope… TRS-1

Finally got this scope that has been back ordered forever, the Millet TRS-1
4-16X50 Green IR.

I don’t think I’ve ever even heard this scope mentioned here, but they talk about it on other forums, most of the feedback being quite positive. I did notice in the hunting section here awhile back that one of those guys from Argentina had one of these on their AF rifle. While I feel that my 8-32X60 Nikko scope is way better than the Leapers, this one has the edge over the Nikko imo, and for less money.

First off, the optics are crisp, and clear as hell, some compare it to the 3200, or Leupold IV. I’ve never looked thru those scopes so I can’t give a personal opinion. This scope gathers light better than my “Nighteater”, which won’t last as long as the sun sets. I really like the reticle, very thin lines but crisp, mildots are small but still easily seen, and there’s small ‘hash marks’ between each mildot, which is nice for holdovers, as some mildots seem to far apart.

Large, tall tacticle type turrets with clicks that are crisp and audible, they can be re-set to zero. 1/8″ MOA, which may be a con to some. They have lock collars, like Leapers. No horizontal hash marks to count revolutions of the turrets, but the new model will have that.

It won’t support a large side wheel, but as you can see, the AO side focus is way larger than most, and still doesn’t get in the way of the mag on the 410. Comes with sunshade, and both flip up lens covers. I almost cancelled my order for this after getting the Nikko, but I’m glad I didn’t, it looks and performs good on my new s410, and I’ll keep the Nikko for my Talondor. Here’s some pics of the TRS-1. Oh you can also see the new Harris swivel Bi pod I picked up at Mac 1 today, worked out great!

Man, That 35mm looks wicked! 😯 I saw that people were worried about them changing after the Bushy buy out. but in truth they will only get better. They are already made in china as is. However, higher end Bush’s are made in Japan, with much better glass and coatings. It could be a very bright future indeed!

You Know, with a Tony tuned gun, I would shoot it with different bbls, and when using a caliber and bbl. length that requires a lot less power, I would just record the settings on the top hat and dial that Tony has it set at, and return it there when going back to his set up and bbl. Sounds like a real winner to me! 😀

Funny I was thinking of similar plans, the 410 for lower to medium range work, it’s power adjustable, getting 14.3 in the mid 500’s to mid 900’s and then converting my SS into a dedicated 24″ .25 Talondor for higher end power, may even having Tony ‘soup it up’ as you say. But I was wondering, it seems once Tony tunes your gun to a specific cal, power, it becomes a “Don’t touch that dial” kind of gun. I would miss the ability to change barrels, calibers ect, that’s what is so cool about these guns. Not to mention the money I spent on the other barrels. Or maybe it doesn’t matter as long as you don’t mess with TH or PW settings? I don’t know.

Getting back to scopes, I spotted this AF rifle with the Millet TRS-1 on it, the only time I’ve ever seen it on a AF gun. This photo is from the ‘Angled Tank’ thread in the mods section. I believe the gun belongs to one of the guys from Argentina. The gun at the bottom:

Here’s a Thread on the millett LRS 6-25X56 scope, with not a 30mm tube, but a 35 mm tube. With the sunshade on it looks about 3 ft long lol. It’s gigantic. You can see it here:

The Millet isn’t bad at all at that price!

What I do like about it is the reticle and the Light gathering. I do a lot of night hunting and light gathering is a “BIG” plus!

The Zeiss wasn’t bad in price when I ordered it, but man, they have gone stright up! That’s the only thing keeping me from going to the new 6x20x50mm. Super optics, but Dam! 😯

Those AA guns are looking better and better. What I would really like is a AA in .22 and a Rapid .25 souped up by Earnid-AKA Swift 220 over at AirGunAdvice. I love the power of my Hot rodded SS, but there are a lot of times I could use more than one fast round.

Knife yeah my bad saying this scope compares to a VI. I meant the varix-II, and that’s from what I’ve read, not personal experience, so I probably shouldn’t even have posted that. But, it’s better than my 8-32X60 Nikko in 3 places, reticle, crispness, and light gathering. Rather important factors in a scope. And about 30 bucks less than the Nikko. I will stand by my personal belief that for 275 (at SWFA anyway) this is a good scope for what you pay. I know the Legend is even less, but I have to have a side AO. I’m not sure what your Ziess cost but I’m probably not there yet lol. It better be better than mine!

Thx for the compliment on my 410… this is a rifle I will cherish for a long time. You still looking at them I presume.

Good. may-be Millet will finally get decent optics.

compare to IV Lup’y. No way. A vairx-II may be but not quite. optics are on par with a bushy Legend though.

I’ve heard that Nikko optics are pretty good. but then again, they have a 200-300 dollar line and a 800-900 dollar line. The high end Nikkos are good.

I looked at the Millet first hand, along with other 30MM scopes. I ended up with the Zeiss. Extremely crisp! The Millet washed out in the color ranges and contrast fast as you went up the power range.

I had much rather have lower power and high contrast optics, than high power and flat picture.

Next Scope will be another Zeiss With higher mag. but with the 4.5x14x50mm with side focus, mil-dot and target turrets I can easily see a .177 -.22 hole at 120 yards. Even down at 9 power. And it looks very crisp. One of buddies brought over a 30x the other day, and you couldn’t see a .22 at 100 as well at 20x-30x as the Zeiss at 6X. Its all in the contrast and resolution. With clarity being a big issue. Even the high price-Lup’y sniper scopes can’t get it done! 🙁

Thats one good looking Rifle! 😀

A good scope, but a bit heavy for an airgun……

Well, some here use lighter scopes than this, some use heavier ones. I mostly bench shoot, so it’s not that much of a issue for me. If anything it’s the new bi pod at the front that makes a noticeable weight/balance difference if I should shoot off hand, but of course that can be removed quite easily if need be.

A good scope, but a bit heavy for an airgun……

good review of same………

Zombie, your right, Donny at Big River Tacticle says these scopes are gone as soon as they come in, it took me months to get one. Don says most of the hang ups was that Bushnell bought the comp out, or something to that effect, so the switch over, inventory ect took alot of time. But many, including myself, believe this is a great scope for the money. Also carries Lifetime warranty.

Anyone who’s interested can read more reviews at the bottom of page here

Nice scope, they’re usually out of stock at most places which tells you something about their popularity.

The last Millet I used was an older model that had a glass-etched reticle with very fine, crisp crosshairs. Something that I can’t say the Nikko Nighteaters have. I understand that the new genenation are even better – if that’s the case you’ve got a nice set up there, enjoy!
