Q:

powerwheel`s weird science

Hi guys,

i was wondering what the adjustmentsrange of the powerwheel is. I`ve got a standard Condor, i used baracuda extra ` eavy pellets (21.5 grain), yanked 200 bar in the gun, got myself a cup of coffee, sumpin to smoke and my chrony.

I took 30 shots with the powerwheel on the max, here are the numbers:
01 1022.9
02 1036.7
03 1009.8
04 985.1
05 977.5
06 988.2
07 981.4
08 974.1
09 967.7
10 959.5
That`s about 54 FPE for the first 10 shots.
11 951.3
12 951
13 938.5
14 930.5
15 924.5
16 916.5
17 911.4
18 903.7
19 898.2
20 889.4
That`s about 46.7 FPE over the second 10 shots.
21 882.7
22 875.7
23 865.9
24 858.6
25 847
26 841.2
27 825.7
28 820.8
29 812.6
30 799
And that`s 39.3 FPE.

Next thing i did was get me another cup of coffee, another smoke and the next shotstring. I adjusted the powerwhgeel to the lowest possible setting for this string.

01 956.6
02 966.8
03 977.8
04 972.9
05 976
06 966.8
07 961.3
08 958.3
09 965.6
10 966.2
These 10 give an avarage of 51.6 FPE.
11 966.8
12 956.1
13 963.2
14 955.5
15 954.6
16 949.7
17 946.4
18 941.2
19 933.9
20 933.3
WTF!? 49.7 FPE? That`s even more than on the highest powersetting!
21 926.
22 925.7
23 921.7
24 912
25 908.3
26 905.9
27 897.6
28 887.9
29 883.9
30 875.7
That`s very funny, this string is 45.1 FPE.

On the highest setting the Condor is doing an average of 46.6 FPE. On the lowest possible powersetting the Condor is doing an average of 48.8 FPE.
The only thing the high setting of the powerwheel accomplishes is a waste of air and a surplus of noise. (noise is an important feature. i don`t want anyone to wonder ‘what the hell is he doing? when i`m shooting people hear i`m shooting)

Over the first 10 shots the higher powersetting has any use, in de zecond and thid string the lower powersetting is more powerfull!
In the 30 shots fired in the highest powersetting the difference between the fastest and the lowest shot is 238 feet! The difference in the shotstring in de lower powersetting is 102 feet.

Am i mistaking when i say theat the powerwheel is as usefull as a lollipop with a cockflavor?

Well, lemme hear you about this little test.

Take care.

My Condor 12″ 22 Cal slings Kodiaks downrange at 980 FPS with the PW set to 8. Kodiaks are the only pellet I can maintain a tight grouping at 150ft. Just ordered JSB 18 gr, so I will chrony them and give them a try as well. Condor is stock with no mods.

is that with a stock hammer, any mods, and are the numbers constant?

test

I have the 12 and the 24″ bbl in .22 cal. I have a Chrony but have not set it up and tested my shots. I will be out of town for a week, but when I get back a few of the air gunners in Spokane, Washington are going to come over and shoot some guns. I have about 17 different ones and the group that are coming over have lots too. We will be setting up some Chronys at that shoot, so I will have some numbers. I just got the Scuba Tank filled and will be starting out at about 3,000. I will post the numbers later this month…

Hi,

slowly but surely i`m starting to understand the importance of lollipops, but please, don`t let `m taste like a dick.

That reminds me of something else. I used to work in an icecreamshop some years ago. There was this guy coming around for an icecream every day, summer or winter, every single day.
One day he asked if there was a new flavor available.
“Sure man, this is your lucky day, i`ve got an icecream with pussyflavor! How `bout that!? ” i told him.
Sure he wanted one.
I made him the icecream and het started licking en strolling his usual way to the busstop.
Suddenly he came running back. “Holy fuck, this is dirty! It taste likes shit not like pussy!!! What did ya sell me!” He hollered.
“Take it easy bro, just take smaller licks….” i said.

So errr…, where were we. yeah right. It had something to do with an airgun.

Awrite Bill, the only thing the powerwheel does is change the tension on the hammerspring.
But i see you`ve got a Condor with a 12″ barrel, that sounds kinda starnge to me, if you don`t mind me saying so. Do you know how high the muzzlevelocity of your gun is? Seems to me like the barrel is too short to be really effective. It would be nice to see some numbers.
Over here in the Netherlands there`s still a bad case of Condoritis and Talonitis going around, on the Dutch forum there`s been much discussing about the use of a 12″ barrel in a Condor, so i`m kinda curious.

That`s all folks, for now at least…

See ya.

I hurt myself looking at that lollipop

C`me on guys, this is a serious matter! No fooling around!

Roel 😉

but what if we like lollipops?

I bought a Condor with 12″ .22 cal. It is factory set up after a return and “Tune”. SO, its all back to Factory Specs. I have left this as is and am ready to see what I really have…

BUT the real question is…What ,physically, does the power wheel adjust? Is it …I can’t even think that I would know. Just looked at the gun and it seems like maybe it adjusts the spring tension, making the spring shorter for more power or force sent to the hammer assembly. BUT I would like to hear what others think…

Thanks,

LolliPop, did I miss something?

Ohhhhhh man, you lost me with the lollipop

I’m wonderring if the wet weather may have played a part in the shot string, maybe there is some friction due to the wettness.

Hi,

went up to the shed this afternoon, it`s been raining cats and dawgs, the wind was blowing me out of my socks. It`s not very nice, sitting together with a Condor without a silencer in a tiny shed. When the shotstring was finished i took my eardrums off of the floor, wiped `m clean and placed `m back in my ears again. I just hope they don`t fall out when i`m on one ear tonight.

Science takes sacrifices.

I did 30 shots again, this time the powerwheel is on 6. Behold the shotstring from hell, or the shotstring from a maniac Condor, ah, whatever, take a look. Remember this gun is in it`s original state, nothing has been fiddled with.

It`s not all too consistent is it? Never seen a shotstring with so much differencies. Instead of giving me some certainties this string leaves me confused. (yeah, still confused, even after this episode of Soap) But, the sick optimist in me sees some silver lining behind the clouds of confusion. When i leave out the high shots, like shot #5, #11, #12, #13,#16, #23, #24, #25, there`s something good starting to get visible.

I`m not sure what the reason for the different values are, maybe the o-rings are dry or something, but if that is the reason, wouldn`t it have been visible in the shotstrings i did yesterday? First thing i`m gonna do is give the Condor some grease here and there and do this shotstring once again.

When that`s done it`s time to get the lathe starting and make me another, slightly lighter hammer. See if that makes any difference.

Like i said earlier, i`m gonna keep ya posted.

If your like me, you want to know why??? If your not like that. Just leave it on low and enjoy.

Hi,

the plan was to do just about that Mamcrackin. I`ll see if the weather is a bit okay tomorrow, if it is i`m gonna give it a go. Maybe it`ll give some results that are gonna get the old eyebrows raising.

I`m gonna keep ya guys posted.

Roel

Ya might want to try more than 200 bar also…..I fill mine to about 215….
