need 22lr advice
well i had a junky marlin semi-auto 22lr and i got stolen this week, so now i need a new 22. i would like a semi-auto and would like 22lr because ammo is cheaper then pellets. so i was wondering what you guys think of the diffrent .22s out there. one of the first that come to mind is the 10/22 and if i decide on one of thoes i was wondering if there is somewhere to buy them already tricked up, or if there is something elce out there that somene would recomend that they have experance with. thanks

I’ve got a Marlin 60. Probably the one you claimed junky. For the $99 I paid for it, it has been a damn good gun. Only complaint is that it will start jamming after about a brick of cheap ammo.
i can only say do not get the thompson center R-55, anything but cci greentag and federal premium (blue box) shoots like crap….with the cci GT however it will do ½” groups
I recently purchased the 10/22 USST version with the thumbhole stock and the SS 0.92″ barrel.
If you want to shoot to 100 yards get the magnum, so far groups go big with any sort of wind.
I have tried two different types of ammo, Eley and Aquila, the Eley (50 grain) will do a cloverleaf group of 5 at 50 yards, it’s subsonic so that helps. The Aquila ammo is super sonic and lighter (30 grains) and I would not recommend nor would I but anymore. Bought some SK match ammo from Germany which looks real nice and will test this weekend…
The trigger in the USST 10/22 is junk and the machining on the receiver was less than acceptable. I have a Volquartsen on order, should get it by range day this weekend.
The 10/22 is really easy to disassemble and modify if your into that. It mods easy like the AF rifles.
The stock is for a small adult at best and with a scope the cheek weld sucks. I made mods to fix both problems, took about an hour at the most.
The linked rifles above would be a excellent alternative to the USST 10/22, which still needs work after you buy it, mostly in the trigger department.
stower1 man now you got me, i want one of thoes rifles, thanks for letting me know about something that i didn’t know that i really needed!!! 😀 😀 well my budget can really handle that price tag, i was thinking about 10/22 thumbhole stock with a bull barrel already put togeather, i say one last year at bass pro by my house for about 500 witch i can convince my wife we need when i get my midyear bonus check. anyone elce have any sugestions about 10/22 that i might need to know??? seems poeple do triger work and mag release work.

Almost, depending. The cheapest 22lr costs just a bit more than the most expensive pellets, at least in this neck of the woods.

Welp, i too have to go RUGER 10/22 for balls out Eye Candy/Mods Factor. But, if money is an issue, then either MARLIN or CZ makes some GREAT OEM rifles that shoot great outta the box. A good RUGER 10/22 with mods can cost you upwards of 800 bucks + (and i aint talking deer either…..lol!).

A 10/22 is the premier 22, plus there’s lots of out-of-control upgrades available at your leisure. Cheaper than Dirt has a bunch, they sell a drum mag for it, fer chrissakes.
But just to extend this thread, I’ll puke in the punchbowl and tell ya to look at something in a 22 Magnum. :18
