Does anyone have an opinion on which repeater would be a better overall choice and why? The contestants are the AA 410 -vs- the FX Monsoon….DING ❗

well i have/had 410erb, monsoon, and now the carbine
the monsoon, is cool no doubt about that….but the semi auto gets old, critters move fast, and rarely give you a second opportunity that you wouldnt be ready for using a regular bolt or sidelever action…the semi auto function, has a ping to it that hard to silence…the shroud is nice and works as intended…the synth stock is a bit soft and scratches easy…you will go through shitloads of pellets fast….not to mention air 🙂 i had the 40cc extender on mine and it made 26 fpe for 3 mags (36 shots) it was low power but AOA didnt want to do anything about it….in anger i sold it
bought my bolt action 410ERB, and 4 mags….upside is that its even more accurate than the monsoon in my hands…fully adjustable power…and enough air for 30 full power 32-34 fpe and a fourth mag that would be ok….if shooting on slightly lower than 30 fpe you can get 4 full mags out of a charge….shroud is as good as it gets for the size…no ldc is really needed unless on full power and in a crowded neighborhood…downside…its long and its heavy, makes less desirable to drag around in the woods…but a perfect benchrester
now i got a bolt action 410 carbine(16mm shroud)….2 mags sucks it from 200 bar to 100….on full power it does 30 fpe, but the short shroud is too loud to be neighborhood friendly at full power….at 12 fpe its ok however. accuracy is superb, like all 410….cocking is smooth (like on all 410), weight and balance is awesome
the only thing i can fault the aa410 with is the magazine clip that holds it in place on the rifle….if the magazine drum spins with a bit of resistance it will like to try push the mag out of the reciever…FX has a pin holding their in place….and monsoon, crosman, and theoben has a self indexing mags…
i would go AA410 over monsoon…..in .22 and .177 i would take 410 over theoben rapid mk2 as well….and if AA made a 50 fpe .25 i would ditch theoben all together !
Which 410? Carbine, Classic or Xtra?
They’re both high quality guns, made by very reputable factories. I’ve shot both – I bought the synthetic-stocked FX Typhoon, which is very close in layout to the Monsoon.
From an aesthetic point of view, I think that FX makes more “modern” looking airguns.
Here’s a vid of the Monsoon being cronied, the audio on my PC took a dump. Do they mention the weight of the pellets they are using? Anyways, I’m assuming the weight is on the higher side for just getting past 800fps. My AA cronied Kodiaks well past that, so without knowing more details it appears that the 410 fac has more power than the Monsoon. Also notice it has a optional wood stock if desired, but for a higher price of course.

Thanks for the insight. I have read a little on the career 300. Since I have a dragonslayer, I suppose the 300 would be redundant (if the 300 is a single shot, that is) Disregard that sentence as I just saw that the 300 is a repeater. I guess the main thing I am looking for is repeatability and the monsoon being semi auto would win out, maybe that is, I know, I’ll win the lotto and get them all!Thanks again. 😮
If you want a synthetic stock semi auto the monsoon is great. You have to go through AOA for service and that can suck.
The AA410 is a classic type hunting rifle and will serve you fine. It has good support from top gun airguns.
The AR6 quality is not comparable to the other two and its shots drop off like a rock.
Dont let power be your most important deciding factor. For airgun prey the 410 more then enough. I have a career 300 and it puts out 67 ft lbs of energy and it accurate to boot. But so loud it rarely comes out of the case.
I left out a variable that may be important to some, it surely is to me: fpe!
I found that the monsoon is capable of 28-30 fpe
I have not found the capability of the 410: does anyone know its fpe???
Also, there is a third contender: Ar6. I like the hammer cocking on this one, but I read that it has an extremely heavy trigger pull (nearly 12 lbs). I love the energy of it @ close to 60 lbs.
Does anyone know of a kit, or a smith that can adjust the trigger pull on the ar 6???? If so, I think I may put this one on my Christmas wish list.

Rob, there are a couple things you can do to a 410 magazine to make them spin easier.
First, take it apart and clean all the grease out of it, then use a very little 3-in-1 oil only on the center, not anywhere near the pellet holes.
Second (if tension seems too stiff), if you dare, cut one coil from the spring that pushes the ball into the notches. I found some of these same springs at ACE, but I havent actually done this yet. The next mod below achieves the same result for me.
One of my mags just seemed put together too tight, so I used some thin plastic. That thin clear stuff that most stuff is packaged in these days. I cut a small washer out of it and put it between the clear plastic cover and the black plastic center of the housing. Turned the screw down just snug. This made the magazine a little fatter, but still fits inside the gun fine. It makes the revolving part inside free from rubbing the housing.
