Q:

The black ring behind the rear bushing

I took my ss apart to clean it and lost the thin flat black rubbery ring that was behind the rear bushing. Does anybody know what purpose that ring has and if its advisable, what can I use instead?

By the way, when I had the barrel out and the tension was relieved from the preload spring I saw something out of place inside the frame wrapped around the spring. Looked like a scrap of paper but it was a sticker that was stuck around the spring. I couldn’t read it inside the frame and by the time I yanked it out of there I mangled it a bit but I think the word SILENCED was printed in black text on a white sticker. It was wrapped 1/2 way around the spring and taped to itself. That can’t lead to consistent shooting I’m sure. It was purchased a month or two back I guess without looking it up.

Sorry for the LARGE Photo!!! MY BAD! 😳 πŸ™„

Thanks Riff. that makes sense to me

I thought the small screw by the numbers kept the power wheel from moving? (2-12) In the slot on the left side just back from the power wheel.

That rubber ring was introduced with the new Condor valve and striker weight combination.

They told me it was needed with aluminum bushings, not with Delrin. I find this to be true.

I found that a garden hose washer works best, as long as its a rubber one.

It goes between the bushing and the powerwheel.

Hey Dan,

So that solves your Rubber ring issue.
MAW had been kind enough to lend you one….
And besides the sticker round the spring….”Dont Worry about it”
Most of us have just taken it off, that goes for me too. πŸ˜‰

You can have mine if you want, it is really protection for that cheap powerwheel.

Mine is a recent purchase (6months) It had one……
Now the differrence here is mine is a Talon….
But why would it differ from from a condor……cauz all that is different is the spring…hammer and a wider valve in the air tank.
As I highlighted earlier….Even when I ordered for a barrel from Pyramyd Air it had a rubber ring behind the second Bushing.

But the sad part here is my wheel doest stay where its set…But I do check it after every second shot and set it where it has to be πŸ˜₯

I had the condor apart yesterday and I don’t have a rubber ring there, only the two white ones on the wheel. I don’t think I’ve ever had one, or at lease that I can remember and I have never had the wheel move on me unless I moved it.
is this ring something new, or do they all have them and I have just lost it at some point?

Post Investigation:

Findings :

> I opened up my Talon to check the rubber Ring that prevents the Power Wheel from skidding over time, and to my Surprise I found it there.
(To my Surprise 😯 cauz in my earlier post I had mentioned I lost it)
My thought went in that direction because the power wheel nevers stays in my case.

> The only change that was done was a barrel change form 12″ to 18″ and that too had come with a Rubber ring behind the Bushing on the barrel. I found the new Rubber ring that came with the new barrel to be slightly thinner than the one that did exist with my Talon purchase.

Conclusion :

> Over time even if you have the Rubber ring behind the 2nd bushing and between the power wheel it tends to skid with each shot. πŸ˜•

> An option could be to put in a thicker Rubber ring which has a rough surface to minimize friction. πŸ™‚

> πŸ˜₯ I didnt try that cauz it took me hours and hours to find the sweet spot on the power wheel. And I didnt want to mess it up…..

> Just hope I havnt lost it …Will be running chrony and target tests over the weekend…. πŸ™„

I’ve wondered about the same thing. If the rubber ring is supposed to keep the PW from turning, it does a real good job, I took it out because I could barely turn it if I wanted to. WAY to hard. But since I usually keep it at one setting anyways, I guess I’ll put it back in so it doesn’t turn on it’s own.

Ooops as I read this post …I did realized the cauz of my power wheel moving after a few shots.

The Only change I had done to my Talon was a barrel change from .177 to .22.

While I took out the power wheel spring and hammer, I might have misplaced the “Ring here in discussion to prevent the power wheel from moving”

Could somebody please post me a pic of the rubber ring which I misplaced as I don’t ever remember seeing …..
Direction to have it back in place too…
On the way back…I think it goes hammer>spring>powerwheel>barrel.
Where does the Ring fit in the above direction.

Thanks in advance….

If you can find one, a rubber garden-hose seal works great.

Dont use the plastic ones.

an O ring the right size will work

Since I lost the thin black ring, is there any commonly available item that will be a good replacement?

Thanks,
–Dan

The black rubber ring serves a purpose, and that is to keep the power wheel from moving when it is set. You probably noticed the the wheel turns much more smoothly with the rubber ring off, but keep it on. The rubber prevents the power wheel from turning when the spring is compressed/decompressed. The white tape you saw on the spring is normal. AF puts them there to cancel out spring twang, as a lot of us here assume. Removing or leaving it on is totally up to you, it doesn’t make a difference. I removed mine.
