Q:

How much does the pressure inside a scuba tank increase from

Heat? If I fill the tanks at 70 degrees and then go hunting in 100 degree temps am I still safe? At what temp should I be worried? I know this for a fact. When it gets to 100 outside, it gets to 150 in my truck. I’m worried I could go inside to grab a burger and lose my truck. 😯

I would imagine there is some reserve due to the fact that I have filled mine to 3,300psi but, it has 3,000 stamped on it…Or maybe my gauge is wrong…Never know what it takes to burst the disc until you do it…..My regulator has a 3,000 and 5,000psi burst disc….

A smaller issue would be if the pressure got high enough to burst
the disc..Most are set aprox 3,000 on a 3,000psi tank..Doesn’t burst
at 3,000psi but it could..Although no one would get injured you
would also not have any air left in the tank…..

I think if I leave all four windows cracked an inch that should keep the temps safe. As a side note, the other day I was out and set them in the sun for a couple hours. The one tank that WAS around 2900 gave me 3100.

Well if a 3K tank rises to less than 3500 @ 150 then I SHOULD be safe. IIRC they hydro a 3K tank to 4500.

Pressure * Volume = constant * constant * Temperature

Temp and pressure should be linear.

(this is off the top of my head, I haven’t studied this crap in 20 years)

fill with 3000 psi and the use a propane tortch to increase heat to 200 if it holds your safe in the truck with it

i would leave a window cracked just incase

T is Temp in Kelvin, P is Pressure in ATM/Bar.

P1 = 204 atm (3000psi assuming thats what your tank is at)
T1 = 294 kelvin (70F)

P2 is the unknown
T2 = 310 kelvin (100f)

I wont go through the calculations because I cannot show it properly without opening a word doc with some cutting and pasting….

Tank pressure would be 3118 psi in 100f temps

If it went to 150f then the pressure would be 3394 psi
