Q:

New 22-TSS on the way :D

I’ve been lurking a while to get your take for the SS. I have a spot next to my Disco and FWB-124. The TSS looks like a hoot to tinker with after I run a tin of JSB Jumbo EXACT and Beeman FTS to check it out.

Any first checks or favorite ammo would be appreciated. Gun will be arriving Wednesday from the brown santa.

Cheers

UPS delivered one undamaged rifle today. I spent 10 minutes going over fit and finish, great (!), and then filled the tank to 2500 off my remaining SCUBA air. The tank fill gauge is different than one shown in pamphlet marked “nitro buck” with just three marks between major divisions.

I got 20 shots in before rain then light failed after work. The Germans invented the aggravating auto safety with the FWB124 so I was prepared. Mine works smoothly so far.

I pulled my 3×9 Leapers off my Disco as both rifles use the same 1” mounts. Rifle was zeroed with two pellets at 20 feet using rest. Gaylord’s way is retarded; there is a web movie showing the same old procedures I learned as to moving reticules to point of impact, then, move rifle to zero for any fine tuning.

I had hoped that the AF documentation would have been updated to include barrel change out with newer 4 screw models and exploded view parts lists. If not for this site I would have been climbing the walls for info. I gots lots to learn!

Thanks

Right on!

Yeah, I too learned the hard way that the boys down in Long Beach don’t perform the best of tunes. They basically just loaded my airgun with tons of grease and little else. Keep in mind I had this service done before the whole Internet thing came about. I will give them credit on the nice Hunter’s re-bluing job they did.
Ed K out of Texas did a fine job of re-re-tuning my baby. She shoots real smooth now @ 13fpe and no twang.

For birds I use Crow-Mags. Like Buzz said you can’t go wrong with Kodiaks. Those suckers hit like a freight train. My all around pellet is the JSBs. It sounds to me like you know what you are doing.
Be sure to post some pics when your new acquisition arrives.

How do you like your 124? I too have one in my arsenal. That baby is my go to rifle when birds are at hand (only using my TSS when large numbers are involved). “Dead Accurate” those FWBs shoot.

JSB Exact Jumbos in 15 or 18 gr. work perfectly, but I think you’ll need to try the Kodiaks… they are the “go to” pellets for AF guns, especially if you’re getting a .22. Pred’s are cool for hunting. EunJins seem to have fans as well.

Thanks, I’ll add those lead nuggets to my list.. I did have the Predator .22 Cal, 16.0 Grains. My Disco was not that happy with them but can’t wait to see how the 12″ choked Lothar Walther like them.

FWBGBS, my twenty-four year old 124 just got back from the “sold out” Beeman for seal change and a so called super tune..right. She still shoots pretty well but I have a couple of new dings from shipping both ways. I’ll try other new found tuners before I use “Beeman” again. For a flat shooting 177; none of our tree rats have a chance if in fair range of this old springer 😉
