scope shimming
I set up a talon ss for my dad who has specific needs. First off I am old he is really old .LOL I put a laser on it figuring it would be easier than a scope. Second I put a scope on in case he wants to use it. His special needs are shooting exclusively at 12 feet. This would be the distance to his target rich area (bird feeder). I shimmed the scope and sighted it for 12 feet. anyone have better ideas like a scope mount made for this purpose? The laser adjusted far enough the scope would not. I used metal shim material under the rear of the scope.

My dad controls the squirrel population at his feeder. He is tired of his .177 springer allowing crawl aways and return customers. He killed one with 4 pellet holes in him. The laser is awesome on mine so I figured it would work for him. I thought about adjusting the scope for 20 yards and having him use the laser for the feeder. Its a fathers day present so I will ask him what he wants when I give it to him. I have my condor set up at 10 yards on the laser and 30 yards on the scope.
Man, If I was shooting only at 12 feet I would just use a green lazer. You wouldnt even have to shoulder the gun.
It would be a rare shot to miss the beam at that range.
Just remember though, sighted at that range would effectively make trying to shoot longer range very hard. All your shots would go a over a foot high at 25 yards.
I have one on my shotgun and like it. I was not sure what was better for his old eyes. I did not think of the red dot but prbably a good idea. I use my laser in combination with my scope and like that. I have that set up on a condor. Red Dot would be quick and easy.
Yeah I would think that a Red Dot would work perfect for this situation.
Have you considered a red-dot?

I think it’s a better idea to get an adjustable drop mount instead of shimming the scope, shimming puts lateral forces on the tube as well as the optics, not good.
