Talon SS Long Range Shooting
Now that I am on vacation, I’ve gotten in some quality time shooting my .25 Talon. Most of it has been medium range plinking at empty cans of red bull and the like, but today I got the crazy idea to do some very long range stuff. So I walked down to a large stretch of pasture below our property and set up a can filled with rocks at the far end of the pasture ~170 yds away. I had brought down a green foam shooting mat and and I set it up on a nice soft pile of dirt to shoot off of.
After some careful adjusting of the scope and a few “where is it hitting” shots I determined that I should use the bottom “pillar” part of the Mil-Dot reticle as an aimpoint. The first and second shots went right about 2″ and plowed up some dust. I compensated for the third shot and nailed the can.
I was shocked that I hit the thing and tried it again with the same compensation. I hit it and knocked it flat over. When I got down to the target area I discovered the can was pretty torn up by the two hits and when I cut the can in half I discovered a flattened Euin Jin stuck on one of the rocks.
Here is a picture of the flattened pellet. It started out at 790 fps at the muzzle and arrived at ~475 fps

And here is a picture of the google earth verified range.

POI velocity was pretty easy. I used an online calculator and just plugged in the BC and range. The google earth was just just a screenshot using the “ruler” function. Nothing special.
