Got a compound bow recently, but cant hit a barn door with it.

i get into traditional long bows, i have one but what i want to say is one thing that i remember during my research was there use to be bows that fired lead bullets they had an barrel where the arrow went and it had a slice in it for the string. you would load a 500 grain bullet and pull back while the bow was pointed in the air and fir away. they also had crossbow like that i just can’t find anything on the net right now but my longbow produced about 40 foot pounds so if you put a 400 grain bullet moving the same you should have about the same flight, probly better less drag. i had always want to build one out of a crossbow.
Remember a show called That’s Incredible from the early eighty’s? Well I remember a guy who had a .45 (I was only 10 at the time so everything was a .45 😆 ) and a Bow. the guy tried to shoot a balloon behind a stack of sand bags and only the arrow was able to pop the balloon.

A shame we don’t live closer. I use to own a place called X-it Archery in Killeen Tx. I really enjoyed teaching archery and advanced techniques.
It is unreal the power a modern bow can produce. Not to mention the accuracy. Some of the things we would do in demos was to shoot aspirin tablets at 20 yards while suspended on a string and blowing in the breeze. That and hang 45 LP records from a rubber band tied to the top and bottom of the hole and wind them up. The spectators got a real kick seeing the records stopped in mid spin by an arrow passing through the hole in the middle of the record and sticking into the back stop.
There is a formula used in some countries in Africa for the penetration index of solid bullets. It is used for dangerous game. Believe it or not, a hot roded bow can easily out perform a hot .44 mag.
Here is the formula. Weight x velocity x dia. divided by 7000. A 1.5 or 1.25 broad head on a shaft totaling 540 grains is a hell of a killing machine. And still too man 😀 y of our newbie customers came in thinking bows were toys. They were dangerous as hell with them at first.
Once they were shown what they could do they quickly changed.
I once witnessed Ted Nugent hit and kill a NielGi in South Texas on the Kennedy ranch at well over 250 yards shooting a Screaming Eagle LX with no sights, only a release. Ted is a crack shoot with instinct shooting. I’m fairly good out to 100 yds or so.
I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the so called experts say that a Bow is a 20 yard weapon at best. Probably as many as I’ve heard say that an air gun is at best a 20-25 yard weapon. Yeah. Right! You wouldn’t believe all the flack one fellow got on the UK form for saying that he humainly killed a rabbit at 60-70 yards. Impossible they said. Way too far!
So go out there and learn to shoot that thing! And don’t let the authorities find out how much power they have. You’ll be down to 12 fpe on them next! 😯

Its not that wimpy . We ran it over a chrono and it did nearly 6ftlb 😯 What a weapon 😆
If Baz went to the gym and built his arms up a bit Sean could wind the bow upto full power which would be at leased 6.5ftlb 😆 😆
I never understood the reason for those? spend $500 for a bow and ??? for the attachement. still turns out to be a whimpy inaccurate pellet rifle. LOL 😉
