Summer project
I am considering buying an 18 inch barrel for my SS this summer, and then making a moderator to slide over the end of it. It will fit in the frame and be held in place, similar in design to many of the other shrouds I have seen on here. I plan on buying 1 inch OD x .875 ID for the part that fits inside the frame, and 1.25 inch OD x1.00 ID for the frame extension itself. I will be doing something similar to the curlers/felt design inside the extension, but with 5/16ths ID springs and window screening. I will top it off with my original SS cap. I have it all pretty well planned out, but I have just one question: Can anyone tell me the best way to attach the two pieces of aluminum tubing together? Should I go for a press fit, or is there some sort of adhesive I should use? Also, if I do press fit it, how exactly would you recommend doing that? Or should I just drill through both tubes and screw them together? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

If you have a lathe I’d suggest a tight fit – rough up the outer piece of tubing with sandpaper and then use a cut off tool to cut some rings into the inner peice of tubing. Then fill them with epoxy and attach the two together. The tight fit will keep them concentric and the rings will give the epoxy some bite.
