Q:

Fill nipple on AF tank?

Anybody thought about tapping the collar for a fill nipple? May not be enough room, I don’t know. Might just be able to replace the burst disk.

Screw the bottle into the gun and the nipple into the bottle. Not practical for most I know, but for those with just one bottle and configuration…

If the burst disc is removed and it’s filled to the tanks maximum stress level, then you get a BOMB. The burst disc will fail harmlessly.

I think I’ve found that the standard paintball burst disc is 3/8-24 thread. A fill nipple of the same would be nice.

And what is the tanks “max stress” level?

Always looking for something to poke about. 😛

The point at which it goes boom at any given time and any circumstance. 2,000 PSI, 20,000 maybe? 😉

They get hydro’d to much higher pressures than 4500 psi which is the most that the majority of people have access to.

I wouldn’t use a tank that had ever been overfilled by such a large margin – but I don’t believe it would explode. Something in the valve might fail though.

Thanks Yellow Ninja, I did know what it was for, sorry, I didn’t word my question correctly. I was wondering if it is removed, what would the danger be? For instance, how much pressure would it take for it to explode?

Prospective scenario: You are filling your tank when suddenly you are attacked by a pitbull, seizure, or the alien next door who poses as your neighbor…you are preoccupied by this assault and you cannot shut off the scuba valve. What will explode first? Will the valve shoot off like a projectile, will the tank simply crack open like a over ripened melon, or will it explode sending shrapnel through the air??? Just wondering. Thanks again.

Its so that the tank cannot be over filled to a dangerous extreme – will vent the contents via the burst disk well before then.

Just a layman’s question: is the burst disc a necessary safety precaution??? What would be the danger, if any, on doing away with it??? If such a fill nipple would work, I would love one. Each time I have to fill my tank I have to remove my sling (which is a giant pain in the ass). I use my sling for stabilization (half wrap) during off hand shooting…so I would love to be able to keep it on. Keep us posted! Thanks.

Cool. Anyone know the thread number on the burst disc? Doubt that they’re 1/8″ NPT, would be nice to just find a nipple to replace it with. Lines up perfect spot on mine, as is.

No Walter, I am not going to blow myself up. 😮

cygnusx bought a gun with a setup along those lines. So long as the gun is empty when you do it and you dont plan on taking it off and the hole for the nipple isnt facing an obstruction.
