Q:

Help! My talon’s cocking action doesn’t work

Well, i’ve received some new parts today, and it was a breech and a new hammer. I put it in, discovered that the breech didn’t fit properly, and took it back out. i put in the stock breech and hammer, and now it doesn’t work!? 😯 When i cock the gun, it will only cock hafl the “whole action”, and it won’t engage the trigger… I’ve had the trigger section open, and i fixed a little “Slide” that wasn’t seated properly (it had a wierd trigger action” and now the trigger has a normal action. But it still won’t cock .. I don’t get it 🙁 what’s wrong? The safety seems a little wierd, but could it have any effect on the gun not being able to cock?

Second response to this thread will get you there.

I just removed that damn’d safety. It’s a PIMA and shouldn’t be relied on anyway. I also put a dab of moly on the hammer catch. The trigger is a little better. The pull gets pretty light if you remove the spring under the trigger but then you lose the first stage.

I’m feeling like removing it too .. How do you remove it? I mean, if you just take the pin out, won’t there be a “hole” or “gap” in the trigger mechanism, letting the spring from the “safety slide” thingie slide around?

those pics are wrong, the wire goes in front of the spring so it is pushing up against the safety not the spring

That was what my logic told me too! I’ll try that, and then i’ll see if it works. Thanks

Sorry for not answering 😳 had to go down to work out .. To let off some steam 🙄

Lol – i had put the breech in the wrong way 😳 😳 embaressing ..

But i have another problem – My safety doesn’t work anymore .. When i cracked open the trigger mechanism, the safety went out, and i relocated it just behind the spring on that little “sledge” in front of the 3 springs.

Like the first pictures on this page states:

Did you put the breech in with cocking knob closer to the tank?

I won’t be suprised if it’s down to him putting the spacers in before the hammer.

If the breech goes over the sear ok without the spring and hammer in, its a fair guess that you are putting the components back in incorrectly..

you could have a couple of different things going on, so we’ll start with some questions to try and narrow it down.

when did this start, did you play in the trigger at the same time as replacing the hammer and breach?

what do you mean by “it will only cock half the whole action”, is it acting like a dull power hammer, as in can you pull the trigger with the half cocked?

which slide did you fix in the trigger, and could you elaborate a bit on what the safety is doing?

and last but not least, do you have any pics? seeing the trigger set up springs and all, and your new hammer will help.

edit – if you remove everything to take pics, line them up as they came out.

quote Levis2:

Could it be that? I’ve had the trigger mechanism open, and it seems okay?

“Seems” is a mushy word. 😆 Your rifle isn’t cocking with a breech and hammer that were previously ok, so it’s not them that are causing it. Fair to say then that it “seems” there’s something going on inside the trigger mechanism, especially as you opened it up and found a “slide” that wasn’t right. Maybe it was right and you did something to make it not right, or worse than it was before. How will you know anyway, if you don’t know how it was supposed to look before you messed with it? Google for pictures.

Are you sure you put all the breech, hammer, spring and spacers back in correctly? In the right order? Do you have power-wheel components too?

But if i remove the barrel spring and hammer, so only the breech remains, the breech will go all the way down? Why should the addition of the other internals block that action?

Could it be that? I’ve had the trigger mechanism open, and it seems okay?

Any of the trigger and/or safety components not ‘meshing’ properly could cause your problem. It sounds like the sear that projects up into the inside of the frame-tube isn’t being pushed down when you try to cock the breech. There are plenty of pictures and schematics of the Talon’s trigger mechanism floating around, google some and compare with your actual setup.
