just finally finished a new hammer for airgunner had many lathe problems as of late and really busy at work just thought i would share a few pics it is brass with black delrin

Don’t know. I’ve never had any wear problems with the hammers in my guns and none of them have delrin in or near them. However, because they are larger and heavier calibers, I don’t see the sheer volume of someone shooting, say, a .177

So without the delrin how many cycles would it take before it started to wear out the aluminum frame?
If you are making the hammer out of steel, it helps to have a delrin nose at least. If its brass, as the guys have already said, just shape the nose.
i think i will give that a try knifemaker just have to get some larger brass all i have right now is 7/8″ and below
I’ll bet that self lubricating Bronze with a raised lip on both ends similar the AF Del. (Plastic) would work just fine. Much less friction than full dia. the full length of the hammer.
i was not aware of that thanks for the info Walt i have not done any tests on with or without it is only as long as a stock hammer but it weighs in at around 62g i made this for a fellow member and his gun is stock with a short barrel so i did not want to make it to heavy either thanks for the info i will have to do some testing when i get a chance
what are the delrin ends for? have you done any tests to see if the lubricity of the delrin makes any difference in performance? Most guys I know give up on the delrin after awhile. You can make the hammer heavier and shorter without the delrin in there.

Blod made me a brass hammer without delrin riders.
Seen at least a thousand cycles and the inside of the frame looks pretty much the same as when I got it out the box.
A steel hammer without riders could be another thing as its not self lub’
