Q:

Scope zeroing/magnification problem

Hello people, I have a question about my new scope.
I HAD a Tasco 3-9-40 and decided to change it with a Center point 6-24-50.
When I Zero/shooted at 50Y with magnification set at 10x , I hit bulls aye all the time, but if I put the magnification at 24x again at 50Y I cant hit bulls aye. Should this happen.? I never had this problem with the Tasco scope.
Sorry if it sound dum but I never seen this before.

Yep! Good Stuff! 😀

What knifemaker said 😉 I have seen this with cheaper scopes many times before…it was just such poi changes through magnification that frustrated me and forced me to save my pennies for over a year before I finally picked up a Leupold M4 4x10x40. It was worth every penny.

Sounds like the erector tube isn’t properly aligned.. This is why good high mag. Scopes cost a lot of money. It is always good to look for lower power and optical clarity in the lower cost scopes. It is impossible to buy a scope with all of the bells and whistles, AO-high mag.- lit ret.- on and on for a little bit of money. For all of those fancy toys to work, and work right. It cost MONEY!!!

I keep telling people. Scopes are to look through. Not look at. Optical quality is Much-Much more important than how much mag you can get. A competent scope at a low price that will go to 9 or 10 x is vastly superior to a scope that will mag to 20+ with poor glass and construction.

Like every thing else. You get what you pay for! 😀

For what it’s worth, Centerpoints are decent scopes, but you’re cranking a relatively cheap scope right up to it’s maximum magnification. Whenever you wind ’em up to their limits, you’re bound to have some optic irregularities going on.

For me, myself and I, I’d work the problem backward.

Either:

Set the magnification lower at 15x to 20x or so, and see what happens.

or

Zero it in at 24x, then see what happens when you go down to 10x.

At 50 yds and 24x, you might be asking too much of the Centerpoint at such a high mag factor, at least for an airgun application.

Did a bit of searching and found a few with simular problems.

Most were saying it is a problem with mounting ring alignment.
The scope being slightly bent by the mounts or shims.
A couple of guys had bad scope internals.

It was suggested to secure the rifle in a vise or rest and see if the point
of aim moves when the magnifacation is dialed up and down.

If it moves it’s not your shooting.

Yep. they group no more than an inch and a half next to the center. But wen set to 10x all go center..

High, low, left, or right?

High

WOW…I am stumped…Maybe WOK will chime in…He is the scope guru…

Do all the pellets still group or do they just go all over the place?

If they spray all over, I think you just may not be used to the “flinch factor” of the 24x magnification.

I assume your setting the parallax setting properly? What may show at 10x could very well be different than at 24x

Yes the parallax it set correct ,but still no bulls aye.
With the tasco scope ether i shoot at 6x at 40Y ether at 9x i could hit bulls.
