Q:

Hammer slap or need a shroud?

My pro bono pest control business is starting to suffer..2 weeks ago I could shoot 4-5 flying rats from one perch before they would fly off..Now i’m only getting one and poof off they go, I havent done any mods to my gun, It was pretty quite right out of the box, now I actually think they hear the hammer slap and take off..The reason I think that.. is some how by some strange reason I actually missed a shot the other day, I say the pellet fly right behind the birds head, 😆 anyway they all took off..I’m now considering a quiteing mod..any suggestions? thanks!

I guess I’m going to have to change trucks..I headed to one of my fav. spots this morning..there were 5 perched up there big as chickens, when i got into the parking lot all five took off…not even a single shot 😆 oh well I did pop 5 there last night with the aid of a street light…

Try hitting ’em in the noggin (or neck) from longer range. There will be less report noise and less “THUMP” when you hit them versus a heart/lung shot.

Airtight is right.

Air rats are smart.

If you’re shooting in the same places as normal the birds are catching on to what’s happening. No amount of quieting will help.

They can learn to watch whats going on with you, your vehicle and their own peers. Heck, some of the birds that stop by my place are fine and dandy until the moment they see a rifle waving.

Yep! Time to do a little quietening down!

Shrouds do a fine job!. You on th other hand hear the hammer slap a lot more than anything down range. The impact down range is much louder to other close by prey than any noise the hammer makes!
