Any suggestions on the best product to strip the finish off
of my dragonslayer wood stock. It appears to be some kind of urethane finish. I was able to sand through it, but I was hoping to exploit some kind of stripper and less elbow grease.
My plan is to strip it down, sand it, take a blow torch to stock to help bring out the grain (almost like a tiger stripe grain effect) then stain it a very dark stain. If I don’t like the way it comes out, I will go tactical with bedliner, etc. Thanks.

Finish it up with 400 or 600 grit. If you get little ‘fuzzies’ … wet it and and dry it with a hair dryer or slowly with a heat gun. Sand again but don’t re-wet. I like the bedliner texture so much I’d probably just go straight there. 😆
Lowes has a paint stripper gel you apply, let sit 15 or 20 min and wipe off. Should take it down to the bone.

I already sanded it off with 80 Grit. I used an orbital sander for the open areas and hand sanded the tight areas. I am sanding finger grooves in the pistol grip for a little custom touch. I’m going to burn it up with the propane torch to bring out the grain as best as I can, then I think I’ll hit it with a dark stain after some finer sanding. Then I might hand rub it with Tung oil. I’ll post some pics of the progress, although I forgot to take a before shot. All I can say is the before on the dragonslayer stock is quite cheezy. Man, it doesn’t even look like real wood. It looks like a plastic imitation of wood. I almost had the notion to dremel some large “dragon scales” over the entire stock….almost that is.
use some jasco pro epoxy/paint striper, don’t quote me on the name but I’m fairly sure that’s what it’s called I’m just too lazy right now to go look at the can in the garage too make sure.

Yea, if it’s one of them yurytain (plastic) type finishs, anything that will disolve it will change

Paint stripper maybe. I just finished some wood last night and went straight to 150 grit. You might start with 80. 😆

Yeah, I like that bedliner too, but I want to give the wood grain a chance on this one to see how it looks once I burn it and stain it. I burned up a church pew like this and it came out really good. It brought out the wood grain tremendously. Perhaps it will work on this stock. I don’t know what kind of wood it is, it has minimal grain and it is very light. If it doesn’t come out that good, I will go tactical with it.
