Q:

Blackpowder pistols; anyone have one?

I’m sure that some of you crazy cats have a blackpowder pistol or rifle or two. What are they like to shoot and own? I was thinking about getting a 20 Guage “Howdah” pistol which is basically like a sawn-off shotgun:

I don’t see it as too practical, but for some reason I can imagine keeping it in the bedside table, hearing a noise and going to investigate with it whilst wearing my slippers and dressing gown.

i have several 1858 remyingtons with the 45 colt cylinder. but the howda pistol has kind of been on my want list. lets see buckshot in right barrel ball in left —- home defense at its best. enjoy kingpin p.s. windex without ammonia works great for cleaning black powder residue

Colt dragoon replica in .44 used to shoot it alot have not in a while. When I lived in NC I shot from in my garage and it was easy to shoot whenever I wanted. Where I am now I would go to jail directly . lol
I wanted to hunt with it in NC but moved before I got a chance. Accuraccy is like shooting my bow within 30 yards I can hit things further I think it opened up alot with me shooting it.

Crisco works well. Also keeps it dry so the charge will last.

I like the look of a primitive too – nothing with 209’s though… flintlock for me.

I have shot black powder guns for 20 plus years..personally if I were to confront a bad guy..I would grab a lawn chair before I would a primitive weapon..way too many mis fires over the years..at least with the chair I would know what to expect 😆

Yeah, I don’t think that it would be a go-to weapon, but the bad guy might empty his drawers when you jam it under his nose.

This right here is very high up on my wish list.

Ha! Yeah, a bunch of those in each barrel would ruin someone’s day for sure. It isn’t the most important stat, but does anyone know the kind of power on this type of pistol? It won’t be anywhere near a modern shotgun, but is definitely enough to ruin a house robber’s day.

T.T.,

Pack some of these puppies in the barrel for added excitement!!! You could use these in .177 cal barrels as well (according to one of the feedbacks left by a guy who did it….)

I never wanted to own one since my freind almost blew his hand off.

He had a .40 cal revolver, and 5 chambers went off at the same time. The only one that didnt fire was the one at the bottom. Good thing cuz it was the only chamber the ball had no exit from.

He didnt have the cylinders sealed correctly or something, they were supposed to be waxed over.

I lost interest permanently after that.

The one in your picture looks much safer. I wouldnt have a problem owning one.

That Howdah is the Mack Daddy of all B.P. pistols. If they used that thing to dispatch a leaping tiger whilst sitting atop an Indian elephant on safari…what more can one ask for. Davy Jones would be proud!

BP is fun…. cleaning them can be a bit of a pain though.
