LMTSS makes his first Shroud.
Well now I know why they cost as much as thy do!
I started with 1-1/4″ OD X 1.010″ ID Tube 6061-T6 Aluminum-18″
and 1″ OD X 0.930″ ID Tube 6061-T6 Aluminum-18″
$20. and change from speedymetals.com
Then I went to Home Depot with my tubes to find washers that fit in large tube. I also bought some sand paper, grub screws, a small tap and die kit, a plumbers pipe cutter, primer, black spray paint and a 2 wooden dowls. spent about $100.
I had to sand the hell out of the inside of the larger tube. It had ridges going down the length of the tube. I tried doing this by hand by wrapping sand paper around the end of a dowel and twist like crazy at first. Takes too long. So I get one of those bolts, that are threaded for wood on one side, and machine bolt on the other end and screw the end into the dowel and chuck the other end into my drill and go to town with 80 grit first then smoothed it down with progressively finer sand paper.
I also had to grind a little material off the edges of the washers as well.so i grab a small grinding stone that chucks into a drill, place hole of washer over one of the dowels I bought for such a purpose, and start grinding the edges so the fit nicely down the tube.
So I cut the smaller tube into spacers around 3″ long. stuff one spacer down the tube then a washer, spacer, washer, spacer….. for three sections. I am a barrel bushing as an end cap and will most likely use another one to keep the guts from coming undone inside the shroud.took me most of the day / evening between other chores to complete what I is done so far. It works pretty well so far. Not like a Tony shroud or GTBJ shroud, but a welcome difference. I will post more pics with on rifle when complete.

I like the fit and finished and quietness of a Tony shroud. I like the Cost and simplicity of a GTBJ, And it’s very quiet.
Nice job and I was wondering about shrouds has anyone ever done a side by side comparison with the various shrouds available? it would be interesting to see which ones work best decible wise and I now know of 3 that are mentioned Tony’s, GTBJ, Air Hog, I know in the diesel performance business they do a lot of side by side comparisons for the guys on the forums.
even with the ‘extended’ shroud my Talon is 41″ OAL.
That’s not including the Wokbutt.
I thought mine was too long at 45″ but the new shroud puts it at about 49″. I’m still shorter. 😥 😳

She is 50″ long now. She is pretty quiet now.
looks good….just a shame these guns get so friggin long…..guess in a survival situation you could use it as a fishing pole 😀

Ah but Home Depot has an excellent return policy. Just kidding. I at least will not have to by the tools again.
Haha, I like your improvised dowel sanding attachment. You sound like me spending more making something yourself than to just buy one; but making it is half the fun right!? Looks good!

The thing I like most about Tonys is how effective it is. Next, I like the way he makes it the same diameter as the frame. The thing I dislike is the OAL.
