I grew up in Gadsden Ala. Dad retired from Good Year Tire and Rubber there.
I lived in Huntsville Ala. for years. Worked on the Sheriffs dept. there for a while. A great town. with a LOT of places to hunt with a short drive in just about any direction. Man, I miss the place.
We still (the family) have a farm above FT. Payne. Ground Hog’s. Crow. Deer, Turkey, Dove, Quail all over the place!

Right on Saw! If you’re happy, I’m happy. It is a sexy looking rifle, but the large groups turn me off. I’ll regret not buying one someday.

But hey try and find some ammo at the local gun shop, .223 is hard enough, 308 is even harder to find
I love to shoot my Mini-14, fun gun to shoot.
It is basically designed to live behind the pick up truck seat, with all the beer cans and other dirt and grime 😆 😆 😆
I was amazed how sloppy the action was, when I first got my SS Rancher 10 years ago.
I can get 6″ groups at 100 yards standing prone, sometimes better, but I’ll tell ya what for a good no fail rifle that doesn’t care about dirt and grime, and lays down a pretty substantial amount of fire power in a smaller package like the mini, well I think it is a good bet.
Like I said, no super accurate rifle, but jeez I would hate to be on the receiving end of one for sure.
30 round clip can do so serious damage 🙄 🙄

So when I was looking at the mini 14 and the M-1A’s, I didn’t see the point in spending $500-$700 (at the time), on a rifle that needed a new barell right out of the box, (mini 14). If anyone is thinking about it…buy the M-1A, if you can find one.

The Bbl’s. on Ruger rifles have never been tack drivers. A shame. The Number 1 is one of my favorite Rifles. I use to do a lot of varmint hunting when I lived in the south east. And I’ve owned a LOT of Rugers. But for pin point accuracy, you have to have a better Bbl. installed.

The best gun they ever built was the 10-22, my mini 14 sucks as far a accuracy but, it will shoot even if dropped in a mudhole where my dmps wouldnt even think of shooting, the red labels over and unders are crude, the wood is hard on the eyes and doesnt fit the gun very smoothly where steel and wood meet.. the semi auto pistols look like crap..the revolvers are ok but I like my S&W’s better..
Rugers are cool. Well, cool because the A-Team used them and everything that the A-Team did or used is cool.
The mini 14 is a great design that has been pleagued with bad barrells. They have changed the twist two or three times. I don’t get it…Ruger builds accurate weapons, the No. 1, M77, super blackhawk, GP 100, MKII & III…why can’t, or haven’t the got the mini 14 right? Or did they and I wasn’t watching anymore?
I was looking at the 2nd Deerslayer .44mag carbine but didn’t like the 4 round magazine…it would be an awesome weapon with a 10, 20, or 30 round magazine. Then I saw the SOCOM 16 fron Springfiels Armory. Short, reliable .308 and accepts 20 & 30 round magazines. That became a no-brainer. I already had a few magazines that I had purchased before the california ban for my other M-1A. That’s why I don’t own a mini 14.
Some people do love their mini 14 rifles and I say good for you…they are great looking and functioning rifles.
tell ya what, my mini 14 is no tackdriver, however when ever I take her out I love that gun do death, I could wipe out a ton of bad guys with it from the hip 😈 😈 😈 😈
I know it is not a precision weapon but jeez, I could stomp on it in the mud and she would still fire, just the same 😮 😮 😮
I think the mini-14 is the perfect weapon that I am still allowed to have,
I am not talking target gun here, I am talking one gun out in the woods survival weapon, shit I could mow down a whole gang of bad guys with it, no problem 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

I am pleased to see the Ruger management taking steps in the “assault weapon” direction. The same for Remington who has also introduced an AR rifle series.

I have family in Scottsboro as well. Man I miss being able to go to unclaimed baggage every week. Killer deals there.
Not as good as it use to be. Too many Tourist now days.
I once found a burlap bag (50 pounder) full of green chrome compound and soft muslin buffing wheels there. The large industrial 4″x10″ and 14″ versions. No one knew what it was used for. 😈 They let me have it for 5 dollars. There was well over 700.00 worth in that bag. At 1980’s prices. I still am using some of it 20 years later!
Walked out with a pair of uber clean Leica Binos 10×40 for 125.oo. Retail today, about 1600.00.
