The results are in on my BSA Scorpion accuracy issue…
…and I must admit, the findings are quite embarassing 😳
Last time this scope was mounted was when I lent it to my friend to try out on his new Remington 700. When I got it back from him (no issues mind you) I put it away for several months. When I took it out and mounted it on my scorpoin, I never focused the reticle which is the first thing I should have done. While shooting, I did notice that it was not super crisp, but I attributed this to the fact that it was a hazy morning. Long story short, I focused the reticle and went out this morning and shot a 10 shot group (see photo below). I think its safe to say that this was the issue. Which opens another can of worms: I believe this scope has a parallex adjustment of 50 yards to infinity (I say “I believe” because it does not specify in the owners manual. It is a side adjustment with an infinity symbol and a succession of dots), so if it is in fact 50 to infinity, I was experiencing no Parallex error at 40 yards…shouldn’t their have been some error being 10yards shy of the 50????
I want to shoot it 50 yards, but I max out at 40 in my back yard. I will hit the range soon and see how it does @ 50 and 100. Many thanks to all who offered their cherished advice.

40 yards. Yeah, I sure am glad there was nothing wrong with the scope. You know how that works, you start wondering how it got messed up…oh, my buddy had borrowed it so he must have….Big relief. Although Leupold is a first class company and they have a stellar warranty as aforementioned a few times in this forum.
I also am glad it wasn’t this rifle as it is really starting to grow on me, and I would hate for the “love affair” to be over due to accuracy issues. Thanks guys.
Quite an improvement for sure. Glad you figured it out. Nothing frustrates me more than a good (expensive) airgun that suddenly goes south for no apparent reason. Those Scorpions look really sweet. May be part of my arsonal one day. Nice group you posted.. at what distance was that?
The problem with parallax error is even if you put your head at the same place, when it’s blurry you want to move around to make it less blurry. So you end up messing it up anyway.
80, sure it may be embarrassing, but it is always better if you are the error than the actual gun, because it’s not such an expensive fix. 🙂
Man that is a relief….now if you could only get the camera lens to
focus you would be able to give us nice sharp pictures of your nice

I just checked my parallax by focusing on 50 yds and looking at 40yds
and the error seems to be about 1/8″ but it does move some….It
doesn’t seem make much difference when it is 10yds off at 40 yds.
Just make sure you are adjusting the reticle to focus clearly on something beyond 50yds…
It wouldn’t matter if the parallax was fixed at 5 yards, as long as your head and eye rest at exactly the same point behind the scope each time. If you’re consistent in your cheek weld you may not see the parallax error (if any) at 40 yards.
If you want to try to see if there is error… hold the rifle still or in a rest while you move your head around while looking through the scope. You can clearly see the reticle ‘moving’ while doing this. Do it at 10, and it’ll be obvious.
