Q:

How fast do you think a Crosman 10.5 grain .177 can go?

How fast do you think a Crosman 10.5 grain .177 pellet can be driven?

Response to How fast do you think a Crosman 10.5 grain .177 pellet can be driven?

2900psi with a slightly choked stem…… 1300fps with the 10.5 shot 10x pressure at 2750psi and 1284fps with a 10 shot average of 1291fps

Pulled choke, pressure at 2750psi shot 5x 10.5s for 1398, 1391, 1368, 1373, 1350 ave 1376fps
pressure at 2450psi 2x 10.5 = 21 grains for 1081fps
pressure 2400psi 3x 10.5 = 31.5 grains for 921fps

pressure at 2330psi Daisy Maxspeed at 7.0 grains? went 1473fps
pressure at 2290psi 2x D/Max 14 grains went 1183fps
pressure at 2250psi 3x D/Max 21 grains went 1033fps

pressure at 2200psi 1x Crosman 10.5 gr went 1297fps

Put choke back in and 2150psi 10.5 went 1200fps
pressure at 2130psi D/Max 7.0 grain went 1311fps

Refill to 2900psi pulled choke and 10.5 went…………. 1419fps!!!!!!
pressure down 2870psi D/Max went 1577fps…………….. 1577fps!!!!!!

rifle is my home built Vulture Condor style with an 800cc airtank, 5//16″ stem with a bore of 0.220″ and .177 cal Crosman barrel.

Me and Lang got one each a while ago 24″ .25

Thanks that gives me even more to compute 🙁 lol so who has this BSA barrel?

My career 300 can shoot kodiaks at 1270fps but I shoot them at 950 fps because the accuracy is better and I get better gas mileage from the gun.

I do not shoot any pellet over 1000fps while hunting. I do it to dick around a bit but accuracy is the goal and I get what I need around 950fps or less with just about all pellets.

I have shot 1200-1300 fps with CP’s and while the accuracy is okay it was not better then at 950 fun but not what I am looking for.

So this information is basically entertaining but useless if a person
doesn’t have a Walter home built Vulture Condor. Right?

And there you go! Maybe it’s a myth???

Really does seem to depend on the barrel…
The LW I had liked about 960 tops before the group would spread.
My new BSA barrel likes 1050 just fine.. 8)

Freddy, I have been shooting when I can to see if I can get you an answer. So far the 1200fps 10.5 Crosmans shoot well.

quote fastfreddy:

I’m just asking on this one but from everything I’ve read and been told and had pmed to me 1000fps was supposed to be the optimum fps for accuracy and consistency.

I am only asking to find out if I have to rethink what I have learned so far and change gears on what my condor was being set up for.

On edit: I hope this question didn’t come off the wrong way and since nobody answered I was a tad concerned that I came off the wrong way guys I was just trying to find out which route was best for accuracy. I know what works with the powder just seems that pellets live by a different rule.

Fastfreddy I’ve read the same thing many times. I believe it to be true not by personal experience but only because so many have said it. You did not come across as smart alec. As far as optimum, I would say 900 Fps would yield more of both of what you mention. Imho

Response to Harry, is almost uncanny

what is interesting is the power improved on the heavy loads but was the same(ish) with a single 10.5 grain and lost ground with the 7.0 grain.

Think I have hit the max for this setup.
max power made was 66.4 fpe with a load of 31.5 grains.

Walter…..

BTW put 5 of these 10.5s going 1350fps into 1″ at 53 yards (lasered) leaning over the hood of my pickup.

Walter,

If I’d had to bet on who would take up the speed challenge and crack 1400, I would have bet my nickel on you! Nice job.

Thank you Jerry!
gonna stand on that valve tomorrow and see what it will do.
Should be able to get near 1400 in .22 with 14.3s 🙂

Yes I shore nuf do!
works well for tuning
