Bushing question
Hello all,
I have question about the barrel bushings. I am going to vent my front bushing on my new to me .25 cal barrel. I was wondering if it is press fitted on or just with the set screw and just need to use a little muscle to slide it off.
I have broken a few things in my day by muscling them not realizing there is a reason why it wont come off this is why I ask…

The problem I have had is that the grub screw flares out the divet in the barrel where it is secured and when you try to slide the bushing off it gets caught on the burrs made by the grub screw….I had to work it back and forth until it relieved some of the aluminum from the bushing and I was able to pull it off….Twisting helps also…
Heat the bushing as much as possible and not the barrel directly. You should not be trying to get it red hot just moderate heat, hot enough you would not want to touch it very long but still be able to touch it quickly. Try less before more.
Thanks guys will try heat next. Wasnt sure if heating the barrel was a good idea.
It should come off without to much effort but with that said you never know how it was put on! Like crowpopper said small heat source like a small propane torch also take your set screws completely out so whatever you use wd 40 or whatever penetrates better. One other thing you can do other than hammering is take a piece of something maybe you have at home like a pipe with a slightly bigger hole in it to slip over the barrel put a torn piece of cloth of something over the bushing and just use the pipe over the barrel and tap down on the bushing once it becomes loose you should be good to go might just be a burr from set screws, that happens more than not hope this helps Eddie
Might be locktited together. Is it a original barrel or aftermarket. Maybe they are shrinkfit. I know I do them like that!

maybe a LITTLE heat then some wd40
Okay I have tried a bit to get my front bushing off and to no avail.
I am a little nervous about trying tap it off with a hammer or something or to grip it with pliers.
Any suggestions?
Aluminum bushings should slide on and off quite easily. Delrin (black plastic) on the older ones are press fit.

Well I finally got the darn bushing off!!! It was just super tight fit. I put it in the vice (vice not all the way closed) and just tapped it till it finally came off.
