After seeing a couple of members rifles, I think I may want to go the same route. So any thought’s and advice would greatly be appreciated. It may take a while as my funds are limited ATM.
I’d like to thank Dadwilson, Pulaskius, and i’ll mention GuidointheNetherlands as his thread has good info in it.
I’d like to make a short, Carbine/pistol based on a Gunpower/Talon frame.
.25 caliber of course! 😀
10-12″ barrel, with a reasonably effective shroud, but still be fairly compact.
I will also probably run a low power Aimpoint or Tasco dot sight. I am also thinking of running a remote line to a HPA or Co2 source. I am also thinking I am not looking for a high shot count more than likely 10-15 shot’s max, as hopefully I can find a smaller than standard tank to work. I am also thinking of making a folding or collapsible stock, like a butler creek or a feather AT-22 .
I will be using only heavy gr. pellets with the lighter 30+ gr. Eun Jins begin the lightest and possibly Jerry’s 7 ring slugs, at the other end of the spectrum.
Any ideas for a small air source reg./ non-reg. to fit my needs?
Is the standard twist available for the .25 adequate to stabilize the pellet in such a short barrel with the possiblility of high or low velocity?
Is a compact shroud capable of reducing noise levels to be considered acceptable?
That’s all the ?’s I have for now, i’m sure there will be more later.

I’m looking to shoot max yardage of 40yds. It seems like I may have to just get another gun for my intended purpose.
Not to be too picky but between your first post and the second, I don’t have a good idea of what your purpose/desire really is? You’re fine with 15 shots and 40 yards and you want a short handy gun but the missing part is WHAT you expect to shoot.
If it is little critters (or target shooting), design around a Kodiak style pellet and you’ll be able to meet your needs well. If you expect to hunt coyotes or beaver size game and want power (and are sacrificing shot count to get it) put on a 21-24″ barrel and go for it. Remember that once upon a time folks like Daniel Boone hunted for subsitence and livelihood with Kentucky long rifles! Nowadays one can read the posts and imagine it is impossible to walk through the woods and hunt with anything longer than a bullpup!

I know that these slugs don’t slow down as fast as pellets do but now I’m wondering just how much more energy they deliver at distance when shot as fast as you can get them. I suspect that at 100 yards you are exceeding what most .22 rimfires can deliver.
That set-up would also be more than enough to drive the 9 rings to remarkable performance.
The neat thing about going big with slugs is that the bigger they get, the slower they need to start to get to target with big power. That’s good of course because they WILL start slower being more massive etc.
I see this a lot when shooting really big bores like .62 or .87 but it is really interesting to see the same effects with the more reasonable (for small game) .25 caliber.

Jerry, I got one of your six-rings up to 921fps with 105fpe out of my 24″.

Well, as far as loopy trajectory goes…aim higher! It’s an airgun not a freakin’ laser! I kid…but only because in this case it is perfectly true and gives good advice.
Please go make the gun that suits you and your usage. But, don’t expect good performance from the 7 or even 6 ring slugs from a short barrel. If you have a short barrel gun and email to order, I will advise against the purchase and only take your money if you insist on going against my advice (and the posts above).
You can drive a pellet of light to moderate weight up to a useful speed in a short barrel. You’ll waste some air but so what? You cannot drive 60-72gr slugs up to a high enough speed in a short barrel to get accuracy or the power that the slugs are designed to deliver. The heavy slugs demand a longer barrel and the room to accelerate. It has been tried before and ever since we got the answer, I’ve advised against anyone with a barrel less than 18″ even trying the slugs. Ideally, I’d like to see 24″ barrels but excellent results have been obtained down to 21″ barrels.
I don’t mean to piss on your parade but you can only combine so many attributes in one gun. You can make a killer gun with a short barrel but for the heavy slugs you need to give up short guns or live with lower accuracy and loopy trajectory and less power than you dreamed of…
All that said, we’ll sell you as many slugs as you care to buy! 😆 😆 😆

Short barrel and heavy slugs seem like a definite loss of maximum FPS. Two very conflicting wants, would end up having a short range gun IMO with a loopy trajectory.

The gun would be used only for pigs. I already have a condor w/ a 24″ but it’s way to long to be handy in the bushes.
