So very True! Had they been taught that the air gun was not a toy to be used during play…and if you are not going to teach your children how to respect such devices you should have them secured so they cannot access them at all! Truly tragic.
Last time I looked it was 50 feet here in the UK so strictly speaking its 15.24 metres. Fine was £1000 for braking this one.
You are correct that its is illegal for your pellet to enter or cross any land you do not have permission to shoot on. This includes over roads or waterways ect. Doing so I understand to be 6 month and or £5000 fine. Though it may be 3 months and £2500 I get a bit confused with all the laws. Plus a 5 year ban from owning any airgun.
i though that was 10 meters and only on face rated items. a sub 12FPE is fine so long as your pellet does not leave the ground that yu have permission to shoot on.
kids are not full grown hardened adults….soft bones, and appart for american kids are usually pretty thin, heart sits just under the ribs…..doesnt require much fpe to get in there with a 4.5mm close up
problems with killing squirrels with 12 fpe is a matter of shotplacement…they will die from most shots…question is mostly how long it will take

Gun safety, gun safety, gun safety.
There is a lot of talk about banning air weapons in the UK and on the news people are quoting the hand gun ban they had here. Thought that is a bit odd as I know the official crime number since they band all defence / assault type handguns in the UK over the following ten years after had a rise in crime involving such weapon to double the amount. More interesting still was the number of people being injured in crimes in involving such weapons steadily increased to almost 4 times. Wonder what makes them think a ban will work with airguns 🙄
But then if your look at the official death rates your more likely to be killed by a cow, peanut, bee or going for a shit than you are buy a airgun. Does this mean there going to ban all that too? 😆
😆 Me too, I’m expecting a brawl to break out at any moment or at least a good food fight.
No big deal… over here kids shoot each other DAILY with 9mm, .40 and 7.62×39… as well as gang-beat each other to death while a bystander videotapes it for YouTube.

Who needs airguns?
and your suspicions are correct.
How is it possible to kill someone with 12 foot pounds?? I have a hard enough time trying to kill squirrels that kind of power.
I get a kick out of watching the Answer Time session. The British civility mixed with the sarcasm compounded by the hooting from the gallery is hilarious.
It is even more mad if you understand the UK laws.
We are limited to 12ftlb for rifles and 6ftlb for pistols
Its against the law for any under the age of 18 to buy a airgun.
Its illegal to leave a chilled unsupervised under the age of 14 with a airgun. This one is interesting as it actually go further as to require close supervision. This effectively requires a adult of 21 or over to within arms reach of the gun at all times.
Its against the law to use a airgun on public or land you do not have permission from the owner.
You can not legal shoot within 15 meters of any public highway be of any sort.
And so on and so forth. The laws go on and on.
In short there is now way these kids should even have these guns and the kids, parents and whoever given them the weapon all have the postnatal to be locked up for a long time. Its 5 years minimum for simply possessing a gun you are not legaly entitled to. By simple taking a gun where your not allowed is 3 months in jail and £2500 fine.
It makes me wonder how on earth this happens so often. I suspect its irresponsible parents and lack of education for the children.
Try three deaths in ten months by air guns in the U.K.:

You’d think for a Nanny State the government would have better control on safety issues, they micro manage everything else. I call for the new UK requirement to be regulated to 2 FPE. I’ll bring this up during the next Prime Minister answer time session.
I think that’s the second English kid that’s been killed by an airgun in the last 6 or 12 months.
You Brits better be careful, you’re already stuck at 12ft lbs… or before you know it those wankers in Parliament are gonna leave you with nothing left but pint glasses and tea cups to throw at the critters. 😉
