Q:

Question for everyone about there shroud

I have just made myself a shroud and like i have read about others i only here tank ping without pellet, almost silent,

Are you guys hearing air report above 900 fps, with pellet .

it gets a little more as the velocity gets higher above 900fps,and at 1000 you here air report slightly ,and tank ping, but the pellet hitting is still louder.

I guess what i’m after is do you start hearing the air report from the end of barrel at 950 & above, because this is what i have.
It’s almost silent at 850,just ping, i can shoot this thing under 900 and it seems like i could put my had over the barrel and catch the pellet.I thought something was wrong the first time i dry fired it,so i checked velocity and it was right at 880.

then starting at around 900 i start noticing a air report slightly then progressively more as the speed gets closer to when the sonic crack starts.

If your shrouds stay completely air report free all the way untill sonic crack then i have more work to do.

Thanks;

what shroud do you have texasb, my shroud is 12 1/4″ so only 6″ is baffeling and my frame is not open,i built 2 bushing s to slide over barrel then fit to a piece of pipe so to slide over bushings.

Then built baffel to slide into pipe and is removeable. wrapped baffeling with sheet felt.

Need to have a bushing built that will slide into frame and adapt to my pipe so to leave frame open,,maybe let air expand into frame .

Maybe ???????

With my 14″ shroud I dontr hear a thing until my pellet goes super sonic, then it sounds like a .22lr. All I hear is a ping, shhhhhhh. and thats it. Even inside its rediculously quiet.

Guys don’t shoot me lol, I know this could be dangerous but I stood down range approx. 10 yards from my buddy and had him send one past me 3′ high and 3′ left and 3′ high and 3′ right (just enough to ensure I wouldn’t get shot, wasn’t trying for the ol shoot the apple off my head lol) The pellet flyin past was WAY louder than the gun. These are T.T. shrouds. I think the mechanics of the firing cycle are louder than anything.

That, and your ear is right by the gun. Have someone else shoot it and stand may be 10 or 20 yards to the side toward the front of the gun. That should give you a real idea of what others are hearing when you shoot. 😉

Actually the garage/yard thing:

When you shoot in the garage you are hearing the noise bounce around the walls, which are close to you, so you hear it better.

Get in the yard, and the walls get farther away, and the echo is heard less.

Get in a field, huge field, and it goes away. I had a guy shoot a 12 guage 200 yards away on an airfield. Quite literally, I did not hear it. No pop, bang, nothing. Didn’t hear a sound. There was just nothing for the sound to bounce off of.

And remember shooting it. You are on the quiet side of the gun. Stand on the other side and it gets louder. That’s why you are mainly hearing the echo, and not the shot.

No i don’t have any but i can take some if you would like.

I am really interested on what everyone is hearing with there shroud, because i don’t have silence after 850 and up. My son said it sounded like his Red Ryder so we compared and he was right .

I want it quiet at 1000 ,Or at least 900 to 950 were most of my pellets are shootin the best.

just wandering what everyone else is hearing.

I”m going to make an extension for my shroud and see if it helps. It is 12 1/2″ now, from the frame to 6 1/2″ past barrel. I have a tactical carry case for my AR’s that is 45”s so have to keep overall length to this. Don’t want to take bottle off.

Made it with things i had around the garage..cost me $ 000000.00. I will by one from one of the guys in a minute if it is better than what i have.

Was thinking of going bigger around ,want this sucker to sound the same for 700 fps as 1000 fps.
You know it’s allot quieter out in the back yard than in the garage,i hear an air report above 850 to 1000 but in the yard all i really hear is tank ping and pellet slap.

i guess I’m really paying attention to the air report in the garage but when I’m out side shooting I’m not paying so close attention.

MY shround is the same diameter as the frame,i will make the extenshion with bushings to slide over the framel diameter shroud and go up to 1 1/2″ to 2″ around. Maybe another 6″s or so I’ll have see.

That way i can have my 45″ overall length for the case and slide the extension on for exteded shooting and such. Oh and here are some pic ‘s of the shroud.

Any pics??? Inside & out 😀 😀

i only shot just those 2 shots at 2500, compare to the first of the 2700 shots,

not exact, just a comparison

Looks like a great string, but by the numbers, when comparing the 2500 psi velocity to 2700 psi velocity it looks like there is only 200 psi used over 40 shots to get the velocity down to the 2500 velocity again. Only 200 psi in 4o shots?
😕

yes this is what i am seeing,i filled tank 3000 and my velocity was 900 and went up to over 1000 after about 10 shots ,over 1100 after 10 more,so i let air out of the tank and started adjusting top hat down .

MY top hat ‘s original setting was .095

My accuracy was not good over 900 with rws super domes,or hollow points ,the rws match meister’s were better up to 1000 but they even shot tighter at 900 .
Gamo Hunters shoot one hole at 850 to 900,along with the rws meisters match.ALL this at 25 yards.

When i first adjusted to hat down to see if i could turn down the velocity it was at .026 with 1200 psi witch i think is the top velocity for the tank pressure. and i shot 468,468,468,468,470.

Accuracy was one hole at these low velocity with the RWS super domes.
They will shoot 1/2″ at higher velocity but with flyers.

I then filled back to 1200 adjusted TP to .035 and vel. went to 644,641,663.659,this seems very consistent but i did not shoot more than these shots at these settings.

Filled to 2000 and same .035 TP velocity went to740.743.743

Filled to 2500 and same .035 TP velocity was 820.818

FIlled to 2700 TP still.035 and shot a string 890.893.907.848.913.924.929.930.938.948.932.940.957.972.974.979.958.963.993.990.983.984.983.988.997.990.978.942.992.966.959.955.947.990.940.940.938.931.

This seems to be working for the light pellets but iam not thru playing with it yet.

I get some air report after 950ish fps. Not loud, like you said, but enough to hear it over the ping. I don’t like the noise, but I don’t keep it that powerful anyway. I like around 850fps, which is dead silent.

On another note, my gun’s accuracy doesn’t like it when it starts getting above 900fps. I shoot kodiaks, and accuracy declines rapidly over that velocity. At 850 where I keep it, it shoots one hole over and over at 30 yards. At 950 it shoots 1+ inch groups at the same range. I never could figure out why, especially when other people shoot much higher with the same pellet. I actually believe the shroud may have something to do with it, since it doesn’t seem to have the same effect when the shroud is off. But 850fps is plenty, more consistent, and dead silent, so I just leave it there and don’t worry about it.

round and match pellet’s, i’m shooting light pellets and tuning the rifle to stay at 1000 and under.I’ve got the curve starting at around 890 to 900 going to 1000 and back to 899 or so with 30 to 40 shots.

What pellet ?

Different shapes will create super sonic flows at less then 1100 fps.

I have a talon tunes shroud and it is pretty much silent at 1050fps PW12, 2900psi. If shot into the air all I hear is the ping.
