Help needed for choosing the right AF rifle
Hey, I am Rover from the Netherlands.
With much interest I have nearly read all posts, and if I was already interested in the beginning, now it seems already more like a positive obsession and I cannot wait to buy me a AF rifle. I have, however, the following questions:
I make gladly backpacktrips(with a home-build “backpack on wheels”) of approx. 4 weeks and it would be awsome to take my airgun with me. He must be compact and well able for small game hunting and maybe bigger, maximum distance ca.75-80 meter, also the plan is to order directly a longer/shorter barrel in one buy, dependent on the chosen model. What is the best choice:
1- a standard 18″ Talon with extra barrel to convert to a 12″ SS
2- Talon SS with upgrade 18/20″ barrel
3- a standard 24″ Condor with extra 12″ barrel to convert to a Talon SS Choice 3 possibly interesting because of the Hi-Flo tank?
My main aim: A AF rifle strongly enough for small game hunting (on different distances) and possibly something larger, compact, with as many shots per tankfill.
Another question: for my purpose the best scopes within the class 140-200 euro, are AF scopes good to use for their price. And which tunings are specific advised for direct better performances.
At last I have been curious for the possibility to use the Airforce Rifle to shoot (smaller sized) arrows. Is it possible?

how does the home made backpack on weels look like do you have some pics?
Get a biggest/longest gun as possible for “power” and “long range”, if it too heavy, hire someone else to carry it for you, LOL.
I think the AF Condor 24” is not that heavy without other accessories, try not to mount junks on the gun and choose small lighter scope and short shroud for easy transportation. If you want it to be short, maybe go with the 18” barrel is the shortest I suggested. Please keep in mind, each time you change the barrel, it does require some adjustments, but if you define those adjustment in advanced and take good notes for each settings, that will help during the game.
If you wish to install additional accessories, make sure those accessories are configured for quick/easy de-attach.
The best light weight scope I could think of is “SWFA SS 10×42 Tactical Mil-dot”, you can buy it here http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10×42-Tactical-Riflescope-P500.aspx , this scope will look good on a Condor.
Really? You guys would rather hump a larger Condor with a larger scope through the foothills for a few days?
I dont get it. where’s the advantage to that?Im not seeing any advantage of carrying the extra weight.
I mean a day in the woods is one thing , the condors pretty light. but when your living off of what you can carry , you want to stay light.

On my rifle at least, it puts the scope off a tad. Enough to be zeroed at 50 yards and be half inch right at 100. Whithout the rail, its dead on all the way out.
Its not good enough to be mounting a scope on. Plus you are mounting your scope on two seperate stages. Asking each one to be absolutely perfect is alot.

Only thing I would say is get high mounts and DO NOT use the TriRail on the scope rail.

Except for the AF bipod. It’s insanely overpriced. For the price of a $5 dovetail to weaver adapter or a quick and easy hack of an old scope mount, you can expand your options exponentially.

You will need the Talon SS end cap. It may come with the 12″ barrel. I like the Crosman Premier Domed pellets and the Beeman kodiaks and JSB.

Like Holdover mentioned…tread lightly and then add on. I would go with the Talon SS .22. Mine so far has proven that it is the most accurate than all of the spring rifles that I’ve owned. Consistency has been really fantastic. Do get another air bottle and upgrade to longer barrels if those around you don’t mind the noise level.
If your going to be humping it all day I suggest a light version, the talon SS 12inch barrel with an extra tank , and sling , a smaller scope 3×9
and if your hikeing for days, your going to either want a Hill footpump or extra tanks The co2 is a good option for plinking all day , not a whole lot of hitting power , but it will save your highpressure air tanks for hunting .and you get hundereds of shots. the shroud is a nice option too , keeps thing quiet.
However if you dont mind the extra weight and length (not much) The Condor is a great choice.
I belive there are some guys on here that do shoot arrows , but again your going to want the larger Condor for that. In my opinion.
the Airforce rifles are extremly modular and adaptable to your needs
so you really cant go wrong with either. the condor is a little bigger a little stronger and a little more expensive than the talon.
If I were to choose which one for hikeing , I would choose the Talon with a 3×9 and a sling.

What is the definition of a heavy rifle? Everyones will be different. I used to hunt with my Beeman RX-1, so the A.F. Condor felt like nothing in my hands.
