Q:

Question for Powder burners?

My Remington 700 been sitting in the corner since Killing a ground hog in spring. I did remove the scope and put it back!

Decided today to put the scope back on and to zero, also run a patch through the barrel. Before shooting the gun?

The first patch through was black with some light brown? After a few patches the black went away, but the light brown stayed. Ran a lot of patches through the barrel, using FP-10 and Break Free CLP After an hour I gave up.

All of the patches came out with the Light brown color, maybe 100 patches.

Do I have a problem, rust?

Walter……

Thanks Sawtime, I have got lazy seems here lately. So I just ran the bore brush with hoppes # 9 powder solvent/rust preventive and a few more patches through my CZ 452 and Remington 700. 😀

Patches came out clean 😆 Then I ran a clean patch through the bore with TSI 321 to prevent rust.

Someone ask where to buy TSI 301/321? Pilkguns had TSI 321 for sale @ the Roanoke Airgun Expo? Pilkguns sells Steyr Air Rifles, If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me.

BTW don’t use TSI 301 on Airguns, has a solvent that’s not plastic/oring friendly.
……………………TSI 321 is Airgun friendly, no solvent.

I’m out to put some .223 down the pipe.

Ya gotta clean the bore before ya put her up, not after.
I would say run a brass brush with some Hoppe’s and follow up with the patches.
This is why I like the SS steel guns, although more than 1/2 are not 😳 😳 😳 😳
It’s a pain but I clean my stuff all the time before they go in the safe 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Thanks 80 GRIT; I have not used a brass bore brush in so long, must have forgot what they are for.

After the bore brush, the patches came out black again! More brush and even more patches. Success 😀

This is the first time a bore brush has been down that barrel?

It sits in the corner of my bedroom. Don’t believe it was rust.

Sam 😳

Try some brass brushes, or nylon if you prefer, before you start patching it. You need to break up whatever is in there. Where did you store it? I wonder how rust got in there if it is rust???
