Q:

Question about carbon fiber tanks

If a tanks service life ends but still passes hydro is it still safe to use if the tank looks in good shape? Even if safe will some people still not fill just because the service life is up?

For the price that they charge for cf tanks,it would be nice to extend the fill life of them.i’m waiting to find that elusive great deal on a used one.Being the cheap bastard that i am,i refuse to pay $500.00 for a cf tank! 😆

Tiggerhappy — I did not notice that you are from Canada until after I posted.

Everything that I have read about CF tanks says that they are still good after 15 years it is just the U.S. law that limit there life span to 15 years. If you have your own compressor you can still if your CF tank. I would still get a hydro test every 3 to 5 years to be on the safe side.

I just hope the U.S. Government passes the extension to 30 years.

Maybe the laws are different in Canada.I’m just going on what the guy at the dive shop told me when i asked about the cf tanks.

I just went to get my aluminum tank filled two days ago at the dive shop and the guy was filling 20 CF scott air packs for the local fire guys.I asked him the same question.He said as long as it passes the pressure test and has no physical damage(ie..chips or cracks)they will still fill it.
