Sights on a Talon?
Hey guys i know this would be a big “step-down” but what do you think about sights? I’ve been shooting around 15-40 yards lately, and I’m thinking that sights might be better than buying a new scope. What do you think?

Yea, yeah, yeah, heh, heh… Hey Butthead, he said “go peep”, heh, heh, heh… “go peep! Heh, heh, yeah, yeah, heh, heh, heh… “go peep”!
😆

If you are going iron, go peep:

If your looking for iron (non-scoped) sights and you have a Talon SS, then peep sights might give you a slight advantage over open sights….
Tube gunners use them very accurately out to 600 plus yards in the off-hand prone position…
Here is a link to a photo of a 1000 yard peep sight setup on a tube gun….

I think part of the delay that AirForce experienced with The Edge was in developing the new 10 meter sights…
A bunch of front sights on PA…

A bunch or rear sights on PA…

If you have a Talon it may be a bit more difficult to get the necessary distance between the sights to provide longer range accuracy… On the other hand I may be totally wrong and they may work on the shorter frame…
Just thought I would throw the idea out there. The airgun sights for competition should fit your distance requirements… 😀
Good luck!
edit: I have a cheap but well done Bushnell (I think) Powerline 3-9X32 I am not using that i’ll throw in the post… It isn’t anything fancy but it is effective up to 50 yards, realtively small and light… Comes with two see-thru hard plastic end ap covers on a small bungie like cord…
i shoot with open sights, a red dot AND a scope…takes moments to change from one to the other…just have to make sure and readjust if needed when changing.
the red dot works wonderfully for nite/low lite applications…i use a Tasco Pro-Point with 0x magnification and i’m able to keep groups of less than 2″ at 35 yds with it. the red dot is 3 MOA IIRC…so precision accuracy might be a little hard to get using the red dot.
i find open sights to be about the same as the red dot in accuracy. i have had no problems with the standard AF open sights.
it’s also correct to say the AF has great potential for being accurate to the extreme with a telescopic aiming device, too. i use the AF scope that came with it as a ‘kit’ gun…
😀 😀 😀
Good choice. They are quite rugged for their price.
I went with a Centerpoint 4-16×50 Adventure Class. I’ll post pics tonight. Thanks for helping!
In the red dot price range I would get one of these instead . it will get you by for a while. the red dot is close range low magnafication scope. for quick shots on rats or something . depends on how close you plan to shoot . close range , a red dot is my first choice.over all my choice would be the center point. it will get you by for the money.
Can you tell us what you are using now? Even 3 power at 15-40yds can seem huge. I’m assuming you already have a hi-mag. scope. The red dot should do nicely within the ranges you are mostly shooting, or you can try one of those ultra bright green lasers and just point and shoot.
The AF target sights cost as much as a very nice scope, even the crappy stock ones cost an arm and a leg. Buy a Bushnell 5-15×40 and never look back. I can nail cans at 160 -210 yards ( with like 9 feet of drop:shock: ) even though I usually harvest game at <40yds.
Well it doesn’t sound like the sights would be a good idea. What about a red dot? Are centerpoint red dots any good? I’ve been looking at this one. Let me know what you think. http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/CenterPoint_Red_Dot_Sight_1x34mm/1664
I found the front sight to be a little big, and a little to bright.
Ive always enjoyed open sights .I use open sights on my springers.
but your probably never going to get 3/4 inch groups at 50 yards with the open sights airforce has.
maybe the new targets ones can, but not the standard open sights.
I agree , you can pick up a leapers or a center point scope that will shoot ok pretty cheap.
the bushnell legend is supposed to be in the top of its price class for 165.
Id just go with a cheap centerpoint to start , and when ya get the extra jing get the one you really like. I wouldnt sweat it.
Open sights??
Might be better for some applications like up close night shooting.
But you would never utilize the full potential of the gun with open sights.
Do you already have a scope. There are plenty of lower priced nice scopes around.
Well AF open sights are kind of expensive, how about a red dot type scope or a holographic type scope?-Some of these can be found for really cheap $25.00-$35.00
