Q:

Best shroud length for 18 inch barrel?

I am hoping to get an 18 inch barrel for Christmas for my SS, and I want to make a shroud for it. It will be pretty basic, probably baffled with springs and washers. Can anyone tell me how much shroud I want to add to the gun to effectively quiet an 18 inch barrel? It will be 1.25 in. OD by 1 in. ID tubing. I would like to order the aluminum now, so I can have it done by the time I have the barrel.
Thanks,
Chris

Ive got a 6″ LDC on my 18″ SS .20cal and it does really well….

My 18″ .22 had a 8.5″ and did just fine. The 21″ .25 is carrying a 10″. Again, it does a fine job.

I tried two modifiers on my 18″ barrel. One was about four inches long, in the diameter you want, and the other one was eight inches long.

The four inch muffled the report by 50-60%. The eight inch stopped the report, period. One was for looks, and the other was for full function.

Your need for silence will dictate the length you eventually end up with. Now, remember, this was on a Talon SS, with a vented baffle and frame. If you don’t have that, you may need to go a bit longer to get seriously quiet.

This was my experience. GTBJ and Marmot_Militia made mine. Either one of these guys could make you one that will do the job.
