How old?
I have a couple crosman 22xx’s with shoulder stocks wearing full size rifle scopes and my 8 and 10 year old both have difficulty getting close enough to the scope to use it correctly. And I have them set back pretty far.
Different application but I can vouch for the BSA 2x and to a lesser extent the BSA 2-7 pistol scopes. My guys like the the red dots better though (and I have the cheapest ones I could find).
NJ, you’ll need a (longer eye relief) pistol scope for that. For an 8 year old, the red dot would probably be better with out the magnification. Also, look up NcStar pistol scopes. They are cheap but may be worth for an 8 year old to use.
Good luck,

I also have BSA Red Dot Sight.
I use it regularly.
