Q:

Picked up this tippman paintball gun in a trade.

I traded a matthews compound solo cam 3d bow for this gun. He also gave me a vest, helmet, gloves, extra hoppers, ball holders, rolling cart, spare grip (not electric), etc.

I think I got the better end of the deal. I was only asking 150.00 for the bow. He claimed 1,000 invested, but I doubt that. It is an upgraded gun. He said it has a lightening rod and a few other things that I don’t know much about. I’ve never been paint balling, but now I guess it’s time!

He showed up and told me the tank had no air in it, but the gun works perfectly. I noticed the quick connect on the air bottle, so I said, “I’ll be right back”. I come out with my cf to fill it up….If he was trying to get fast, he would have been busted. Anyway, the gun shot just fine. He showed me how to shoot curve balls with that Apex barrel. That is pretty cool.

Please advise on any maintenance and any other “newbie” suggestions you may have for me. I bought a bunch of paint balls on sale. They were hard on one edge and soft on the other. Is that right? Also when I fired them at around 14 yards some of them exploded and some bounced off of the wood 😯

Thanks for the info. Yes, he gave me a squeegee and a mop. The apex barrel on it shoots left and right curve balls and drop down curves. I couldn’t believe it when he showed me. He aimed at a pile of palm leaves around three feet high and the ball passed over it and dropped down very quickly like a big league sinker.

They will take the balls back as they are all squished together in the bag, some are broken open…It is Wally world, so I will have no problem.

We are going to get into it this winter here in Florida as the winter months are not too hot. Talk to you later.

That was awhile ago I just looked and a 2000rd case is 70 bucks. At the time they were the best, RP Scherer Marballizer Paintballs. It was also before the big internet superstores so I bought them at the pro shop were we did most of are playing. That was over ten years ago Im sure there is a better brand now that is cheaper.
We stopped right when electric guns came out so I cant advise if you have any questions in that area.
I would return the paint if they will take it back. It should not be squishy and both halves should definitely be the same.
When playing shoot to the side of a bunker as opposed to shooting over it, you’ll be less of a target. Your gun also favors a left handed shooter, so left side of bunker will have less exposed than on the right side, if your target allows. Sight down the gun and follow the paint, trying to use a sight is usually not effective. A barrel squeegee if he didn’t give you one. If you break paint during a game your screwed without one. Balls will continue to break and the ones that don’t will be everywhere but on target. There may be some guns now that are not effected and self cleaning, if your is not definitely a squeegee.
Sorry for all the information, but I got a paintball boner now, I was just talking about getting back into with my buddies.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is full auto. It is semi auto until you pull the trigger twice quickly then it goes full. I have not really looked at it, but it has electronic settings in the grip that control the rate of fire as well.

I will post a pic of the paint balls tomorrow. Perhaps you could advise then. They seem to be thicker rubber on one side and squishy on the other. They are by no means round. I cant see them flying straight the way they look. Perhaps I should just return them. I knew they were on sale for a reason. 😥

What kind of paint balls cost that kind of change??? 😯

treat it like any other gun, keep clean, o rings lubed and check with tippman about shoot through oil. Paintball is way fun have a good time with it.

Tippmans are no “tourney gun” by any means. However they are effective, nice and can a take a hell of a beating. Sounds like you bought shitty/old, paint I havent, played in years ,but when did tournaments I would spend $130 on 2500rds. If paint isn’t breaking in the barrel its not the gun. The paint should not be squishy soft/rubberey, but should have a little give.
Also I believe they should be chronied @290fps for safety reasons. We use to play with them alot hotter until I cracked my brothers goggles.
If you only wanted $150 for your bow, I would say you got a hell of a deal.
Is that full auto?
