Why would you ever pay that much
“Why would you ever pay that much for a rifle?” I get this question a lot at a shooting range or just in conversation regarding my guns, namely my blaser lrs2. I showed a couple of my cousin’s friends this week on my grandparent’s farm exactly what you get when you pay for a good rifle. They both had some remington 700 variations in 308 and 30-06. They weren’t bad guns at all, pretty nice really. They actually told me that buying something as expensive as a blaser was a waste of money, they said their rifles would group as tight as any other gun, and all you got when you spent more was a cool look and a good name. I tried to explain that there was more to it, the trigger, stock, action, etc, but they wouldn’t believe me. So I challenged them, we went to the back field where I had a large sheet of plywood on a 4×4 set up for long range shooting. We set up some quarters and such and shot at them. Their rifles were pretty accurate, hitting 1″ targets almost every time. Since we had such a large target I said lets move back a bit, and I took them back to 500 yards. All of our guns were sighted in for 100, so we knew there was going to be a good bit of drop, but we were testing to see how tight the groups were, there was plenty of paper so we could easily see the group sizes. We took turns, one would shoot 3 times and we would mark off the impacts, and the next person would shoot and so on for the 3 of us. I don’t remember their group sizes, but needless to say there were rather large. I think the smallest 3 shot group from them was the 308 rifle at 13 or so inches. My group, however, was small, much smaller than even I expected.
Just under 1.5″. It wasn’t a fluke either, all of my groups were under 2″, and one was smaller than the one in the picture. I could pick off a soda can all day long at nearly 1/3 of a mile with a .223.
That is why you pay that much for a rifle

i am not saying anything bad about you or the gun because obviously its kick ass gun and awsome groups

i tried it once and man was i amazed at the paper lol
i also tried 10 -5 shot groups still crazy stuff goin on there lol

It was an awesome group, and it was just icing on the cake that it happened while showing a couple of guys what rifle ruled them all. 😈

Nice shooting Lama! Sometimes you get what you pay for. But this weighs more on the side of better skill than better gun.
Any dumbass with more money than sense can spend big bucks on a custom rifle that is supposed to shoot MOA at 500 yards. How many people do you know that could shoot a group like that if money was no object? The person pulling the trigger is the weak link in accuracy at that level. Bob Lee swaggert, AKA Lama. Some people spend their cash on personal trainers and Jenny craig because their too fat, it’s your money, you earned it. Who cares what anyone else thinks? If it makes you happy when you pull the trigger, who is anyone else to judge? I stopped caring what other people thought in high school, it was a revelation that made the rest of my life alot more gratifying. Fuck em all.
Awesome lama. You need a good gun for that, but its not worth much if a good shooter isn’t behind it. You’ve got skill my man.. Congrats and good job. 500 yrds lol. Amazing.
It has a 20x on it. 🙂 The scope has extremely fine crosshairs which makes shooting like this easier. It’s hard to shoot at a target when you can’t see it under the crosshairs. 😛

“‘Cause quality costs more.” There’s always someone who wants to make their choice look brighter by tearing down someone else’s. The question, “why would you pay so much?” is usually an admission that what the questioner owns is not as good as what the other person has. Rather than complimenting someone on their fine rifle, the insecure will question the owner’s priorities thus changing the subject.
I’m glad you got to show your cousin’s friends the difference. It’s always more satisfying to prove the point than to tell them to grow a pair or take self-esteem classes! 😆 😆 😆
Nice shooting BTW. With a 10x scope the cross hairs probably covered a bigger area than your group!
Way to KICK ass Kiddo. That group rocks and so does your gun and shooting skills. Shooting long distance is something fun aint it.

Lama, there is one accuracy factor about your rifle that I’m not sure if you are aware of or not. Most (if not all) other rifles typically will have to have someone cutting/reaming a chamber in their barrels no matter what kind of rifling method is used. The Blazer’s chamber is hammer forged at the same time as the rifling i.e. in one single step, hence it’s (always) perfectly square to the bore rather than relying on someone doing his job right in setting up the reamer. Plus, there is always tolerance issue with older manufacturing equipment the set up person has to deal with. Another benefit is you don’t even need a gunsmith to chamber and head space a new barrel for you if you want to switch to another caliber.
Btw, the lower recoil helped too but great shooting just the same.

But I will do something similar. That is, when I can get back out to the range. Finals are soon, so not sure how much range time I’ll be getting. But when I can, I will. 🙂
