Do i need a valve o ring mod ?
Hi all, First i’ve just got to say this is a fantastic forum, well done all !
I’m the proud owner of a gunpower storm (talon across the pond). I’ve been doing a lot of damage to the local rabbit population with it so it seems to have plenty power but i’ve tried the flame test at the breech and it puts the flame out every time ! I’ve replaced the breech o rings and it’s still the same so does that mean it must need the valve o ring mod or is there anything else that could cause this ?? 😕

You might lose a bit of power but its more the shot count will drop and comsistancy might not be too good.
It’s well worth the mod or get a blodnob valve…
I’m sure the mod hasn’t been done already as the guy i got the gun from didn’t know much about airguns obv 😀 The only time it’s tried to dump the tank is when i tried wasps in it and they fell out of the breech and held the tank open ! It’s never happened with the bis mags ! Will i be losing much power with the gun running like this ??
to see if you have a valve o-ring mod its best to empty your bottle (put a 5p in the fill adapter) then tighten the fill adapter to the valve slowly and it will open the valve and dump the air.
once empty you will need to remove the valve from the bottle. they are normally locktited on so lots of hot water over the valve where it meets the bottle for a while to loosen it off. pop a drill bit that fits the burst disk hole and give it a few hard taps with a hammer. this should break the bond and then you can un screw the valve from the bottle.
when you have done that you will want to loosen the top hat grub screws 0.05 inch hexkey will do the job but there is locktite again. this time put the hex key over a lighter until hot then insert it into the grub screw. do this a few times untill you can undo the grub screws.
remove the tophat and push the valve stem through the valve.
look into the valve body and you will see if you have the o-ring mod. if you dont send it off to http://www.leupyscustomshop.co.uk/index.htm and ask him to fit one. if you send the complete valve he will chrono it before sending it back to you.
if you have a new valve the hophat placement wont make much difference as there is a very small hole inside the valve seal that restricts air flow for about 10.5FPE.
if you have the 0-ring mod fit a new o-ring and give everything a good clean and put it all back together and see if it helped. sometimes a vale can get sticky due to dust/dirt between the stem and valve body.
No, i’m a newbie ! It’s second hand,got it free cos the guy couldn’t get it charged, just needed a o ring in charging adaptor 😀 ! It was barely used before i got it and is only 3 years old i think ! Haven’t noticed any air sound but i’m usually lamping from a landy so theres engine noise going on too ! Leupy offered to do the mod but don’t want to part with her for too long as i’ve a couple of hunts coming soon ! Thanks for quick reply !!
sorry i should have said in the last post but dust/dirt in the valve stem can cause this problem.
if you have not got the valve o-ring mod it is worth it. there are people on this site that might be able to do it for you or get in contact with http://www.leupyscustomshop.co.uk/index.htm he is not cheap but does the o-ring mod for the valve.
hello fella. did you jump over from BBS?
it does sound like air is leaking up the side of you valve stem. you will hear a rush of air passing by if this is the case and you wont get too many shots before the valve sticks and your bottle dumps all the air.
when a valve works well you just hear the striking noise.
is this storm new or 2nd hand
