Q:

New silencer

Hi guys, Im currently making a new silencer for my storm and I need some advice. I’ve drilled the center hole at 6mm (obviously .22 pelet is 5.5mm) and now I have done this Im wondering how the pellet will travel down through it Ie is the gap too big, too small? Im sure some of you have made a silencer so any input and do’s and dont’s would be apreciated.

I just noticed the sight rail, is this a new design? Also is that the stock 480cc bottle it looks to be bigger than that.

Yer mate its a standard bottle, and all I did with the site rail is hack-saw it off, Ive been wanting to do it for years! 😆

Be careful using a lever like that. It will flop very violently during the firing cycle, and more than likely tear itself out of the breech all at once.

It also imparts sideways force on the breech end of the barrel, and can really screw with your POI.

Im speaking from experience here. Both levers I tried self destructed, and the second one ruined the breech at the same time.

When I cock the bolt I cock it from the base so as not to drag it side ways so its not really any different from the standard bolt and as for it flopping violently, the O ring seal on the breech holds it pretty fast witch is sufficient enough under sub 12 fpe pressure. I had a breech of pabs with a rear bolt which I used for 6 months and never had an issue with either. I mean you no disrespect and appreciate the input but I don’t think il have the same issues.

VERY NICE

Looks good. I like the side bolt action going on there!

Hi guys,
Just finished tinkering today and thought id load some pics.
my original idea was to use a large baffle in the middle but one stupid mistake later and I decided to scrap that idea and simplify things. I’m not sure it would work so well on the more powerful of our rifles but It works well for mine. I also cut the top scope rail (finally got the stones to do it) made a brass bolt and milled out the side.

as has been said earlier…the smaller the hole the projectile passes thru the better. it in effect, creates ‘back pressure’ allowing the sound/pressure to dissapate within the dead airspace of the device

the key to proper alignment is the sizing of the bushing(s) used to install on the barrel. they have to be a very precise fitting and sized…if not…poor alignment=impingment/clipping.

Thanks buddy, I dont quite know the science behind it so that beter explains it for me. Im still making it and will be testing tomorow so I will updade on my success or failure.

my original model had 11mm hole , then i reduced it to 7mm and it made a significant difference.

And yes you have to check down the bore and make sure nothing has moved .i have a long one piece cleaning rod that i put into bore and it comes out of shroud to see exzact center. then you can confirm by tapeing over shrud and shooting pellet. then check hole in tape,

WOK and Lama are exactly right. A smaller hole will be very slightly quiter, but at the risk of clipping. If not right away, down the road.

Mike

Don’t know much of anything about it, but the smaller the hole the more perfectly aligned it will have to be to the barrel to not clip. The bigger the hole, the more room for error.
