Those are smokin numbers. Thanks for postin.
Sam,
It was with a High-Flo. I have no results of my own on paper, I will get some in the spring. I haven’t owned a Chrony very long, Nor did I keep my results.
I do know that I didn’t have to re-zero when switching tanks. Here are the results from Tony’s printout that are pretty close to what I remember shooting.
Tank 1 3000psi Pw11 42grn EJ’s
987.59
996.29
996.04
997.36
993.84
992.45
989.85
989.13
988.16
982.54
Tank 2 all same Pw12
968.32
975.42
977.70
986.47
982.54
987.03
987.35
986.22
985.98
987.35
I am going to bigger tanks w/etacs and really hope it doesn’t change these numbers.
I’m not exactly sure what he did. Magic I guess. I just told Tony I would like the tanks too shoot as close to the same as he could get them. I shoot one at Pw11 and and one at 12 and have two almost identical shot strings.
Are we talking about Hi-Flo valves? Post up your strings please.
Bob

Ah, thanks for the input! That is good to hear…
Did he just polish them or were there more mods.
I bought two tanks and it sucked. Sent them to Talon Tunes and now their practically Identical.
I like setting the powerwheel back to 0 after shooting sessions. Just like the drag on a reel never leave it tightened. I don’t know if the spring may get weak over time but why chance it. 2 pennies for you!
YES! Don’t waste your money, I did and look at the garbage I got from AF…
I would imagine that if you took two of the same valves and treated them to a mild tune/polish they would then work closer to the same… But the crap they send out will not even be close to similar… The actual tanks should be closer to the same and have a negligible effect on the operation of the valve… Pressure is pressure tank will only effect the number of shots not the shot power.
I bought a second Talon tank and I have to increase the power wheel by half the overall adjustment to get the velocities even close and one top hat is out a full .015″+ more than the other…
Went and grabbed my record book:
Tank 1 purchased 5/2007
Tank 2 purchased 5/2009
An attempt to equalize the two outputs…
Tank 1- TH 0.065″
Tank 2- TH 0.080″
Tank 1 PW @ 0/0 velocity was- 870fps
Tank 2 PW @ 0/0 velocity was- 470fps
Tank 2 PW @ 6/8 velocity was- 940fps
Same TH & PW settings different tank:
Tank 1- TH 0.070″ PW @ 4/8 velocity was- 1080fps
Tank 2- TH 0.070″ PW @ 4/8 velocity was- 760fps
Starting tank pressures were the same… And I ran through the whole tank… And I cleaned and lubed the frame, hammer etc…
Did they do a redesign to lower the power of the valve or did I just happen to get the worst valve ever manufactured by AF??? The numbers look like a different spring or something… AF never mentioned they changed the Talon valve…
To me it is similar to producing two V8 engines and one makes twice the HP than the other but they are supposed to be exactly the same… Bad manufacturing/tolerances must be the culprit… That or a total lack of giving a shit about the products they produce… Buy USA it’s CRAP!
In the light of what other manufacturers get in terms of consistency and accuracy this defines ‘absolute garbage’ in my book… 😯 😡
Probably because almost every tank is different. I have two standard talon tanks and one shoots JSBs at 850fps and the other shoots them at 880 fps. You will be able to get them close if you adjust the power wheel for each tank. Tank 1 might need a PW setting of 4 to get 800fps but tank two might only need the PW set at 2 to get 800 fps. If I find a setting my rifle likes I don’t mess with it because when you re-adjust you might get slightly different numbers. (higher, lower numbers, or less, more shots per fill) This is what I have learned through my experience.
